I thought that. He gave them a bit more rope, but not too much i think Blair-White speaks very well. You could tell they were both nervous though. Hardly surprising after last year.

They must have earned his respect ! I like listening to ruby, he certainly doesn't mince his words or suffer fools gladly !

I like how he pulled them up when they said something wrong. He wasn't condescending about it but they will learn more every time they are with Ruby and Lydia. They are already clearly knowledgeable and have a career in the sport so why not learn from the best. I see Stacey as a presenter and Blair-White more an analyst.

          • Does anyone know what the Liverpool pubs are like festival week? Are there any decent city centre racing pubs/sports bars to watch it in?

We went to Newcastle last year which was OK but we are looking at Liverpool this time.

Thomas Rigby's, Dale Street is decent for the racing in the back room.

              • Denbigh Castle just off Dale Street (near Rigbys close to Moorfield station) has the racing on and a fine selection of proper beer.

                • They are that close you could hop between two pubs easily.

Being from the city that end of town is much better for bars and away from the main riff raff and tourists.

You should maybe look at Tenerife or another Canary Island for 2026. Works out cheaper than meeting mates in a UK city, all the pubs show the racing and the sunshine and warm weather is almost guaranteed.

That's getting more and more popular. I could have done it the last couple of years but travelling home when severely hungover puts me off tbh.

The only time I have come close to missing Cheltenham I was in Australia, wasn’t due to fly back until April but I got to the weekend before and just jumped on a plane.
Somehow watching it on TV in 80 degree sun doesn’t sit right with me but I can see the financial argument.
Was also reminded yesterday of the days we used to do the Darts at the Circus Tavern in the late 90s, tickets were £4 a session, £8 all day, rinsing punters has become endemic across all sport/entertainment events…

The financial argument is a massive one but not the only one for me personally. I just find it much more relaxing and comfortable sitting in a pub with my best mates rather than being on my own, crowded and queueing for ages. My friends wouldn't go to a festival but the thought of some cheap winter sun does appeal to them. I do miss seeing the horses live but going to other meetings makes up for this.
