  • I have always been of the belief that there should be a mandatory injured list for horses. As soon as a vet declares them as injured they should be put onto an injured list. I doubt the bookies would want this though. I don't know if FOS is injured or not, maybe they have changed their plans.

      • I only like RPRs for the bumper, classical creek (118) is one ill avoid for that race now, that debut rpr number is important in regards to that race

        • Does anyone know whether Impervious is having a run this year?
Don't think it's ran for 18months and with it still being top of the betting for the Mares chase wondered if anyone had any information?

Saxon Warrior has educated me with RPRs, I don’t follow religiously but find a one raced ex PTP horse’s rating a good guide to their level in bumpers….

Improvement to Win: - taken over 9 yrs as trend has changed

                  (High 136, Low 109, Avge 127)

                  * Tend to need a 131/139 RPR horse pre-race to be good enough to win this (Jasmin DV 128 off 1 RUN).

                  * Seasonal Debut: random - avge 122 excl 1 outlier)

                  * First 2 Runs: solid for 6 of the last 7 years, at 128-136 after 2 runs

                  Summary

                  Horses have posted seasonal debut Bumper ratings of 88, 102, 106, 113, 128, 128, 128, 131, 131, 131

on their way to winning the Champion Bumper

Don't dismiss any debut Bumper winner, based on that first RPR, as its so random for assessment purposes, particularly in early season Bumpers with no depth to the opposition. (completely different to winning a Leopardstown Christmas Bumper on debut).

Very much opinion really, on whether you want to have Classical Creek in mind or not, for Cheltenham,

Rather than him being dismissed due to an initial rating.

Second time out could be D-Day for anyone whose backed him at double his current price, finding out if he's a live one for a Grade 1 or not.

                  • What are the rules for being eligible for the foxhunters? Surely if he's eligible and keeps his ability gaillard du mesnil absolutely murders them in march given he's changed yards

If Samcro, Ramilles, Brain Power, The Storyteller, Minella Rocco, Don Poli, Ucello Conti, and doubtless countless others I’ve missed are anything to go by…..then no.

Darren Pearce on Twitter said the rules have changed and he thinks he would be eligible.

                          • I’ve been thinking….. most of the better novice hurdlers appear to be sent straight over fences, rather than being kept for a hurdling career. However does Willie really feel that stateman or Lossiemouth are good enough to beat an on song CH. and what about succession planning. Who wil be willies next state man? So I have a feeling that he may well keep one of last season’s best novice hurdlers I.E. ballyburn or mystical power over hurdles.
who knows? But I think that we’ll find out pretty soon.

                            • Equally I feel IMO that ballyburn isn’t really a future gold cup horse. Plus Willie already has a basket full of classy open chasers.
                              ballburn champion hurdle?
