  • If there is no turners next year, does anyone with better knowledge than me know what will happen with any bets/ roll ups placed with horses in this particular race?

That leg will be voided and trebles will become doubles, etc.
Luck is a dividend of sweat. The more I sweat, the luckier I get.

        • If the Turners is going then the current Ballyburn price for the BANC might be worth taking - this year’s standout hurdler with only two races to pick from (assuming he doesn’t go Champion Hurdle). If it is announced then I’d expect the current 12/1 to be cut quite quickly.

          On this one, what do people think this does to the Arkle and BANC markets in more general terms, for example;

Races are likely to have bigger and stronger fields - if so, antepost each way terms aren’t as attractive and whilst it should be easier to determine which horses will go to which races they will then face stronger fields making it harder to win the race. Better viewing, but maybe not so great from a betting standpoint. Will be interesting to see what the bookies do with prices, something tells me they won’t be overly generous!

I would agree I’m surprised people on here seem excited by it tbh. Yes it’s better viewing for “the clashes” but for me it’s all about making money and these moves only benefit the bookies. Making the turners, NHC and xc all handicaps will just make them harder to predict as horses will cheat their way throughout the season to make sure they’re well handicapped for these races ultimately ending up in more random results. The NHC is an absolute licence to print in its current form il be sad to see it changed.

            • Wtf would happen to current Turners bets if the criteria is changed to a handicap, very much pocket talking here but having a gallagher + Turners bet at 20/1, would it be void or is it going to be a default loser as no chance he runs in it if it becomes a handicap

Would definitely not be a loser. Voided or single winner on Gallagher.

IF they are going to mess with races it will need to be done very quickly if they are to implement it for next March. Changes would most likely be for the 2026 season imo.

I can picture it now, them sitting around the table and suggesting no changes until 2026 as it will impact on Lobos antepost portfolio for 2025.

Or in an alternative universe, they don't consider the small world of antepost punters whatsoever

Like spectre confirmed - bets would be voided anyway, so no one loses money, the way to play it is try and anticipate where horses might go if a race is lost and converted to a handicap. And the knock on effects of that. If Ballyburn is confirmed chasing then Slade Steel & Ballyburn look the key horses to combine IMO. But he might stay hurdling

                  • Was the main reason I jumped on Slade Steel for the BANC @ 50's Q. Can see Ballyburn going Arkle if the Turners is dumped. Archie says we'll be waiting until the Autumn before any decision is made re Ballyburn going chasing so we have plenty of time to think it over. Agree with the related double re those two.

Not only do we have Mullins Bingo to worry about we now have Race Bingo.

Yep, might depend on how good Majborough looks over a fence.

He's one I'm really excited about. Don't see him as an Arkle horse so again, the Arkle could be the race for Ballyburn to slot in.....IF he goes chasing.

I really can't call it at all with Ballyburn. I was an idiot not getting him onboard TWAR prior to this year's Fez. He's the ultimate TWAR horse.

                          • Gutted to read about the death of shishkin. One of my recent favourites, that race at ascot v energumene will long live in the memory. Such a shame he didn’t ever land a champion chase or a king george. I still think he would have won but for the freak unseat last year.
                            R.I.P Shishkin you absolute legend

                            • Poor Shishkin. So sad. Nicky has had such a tough year already. This will be very hard to take.

                              • Very sad news that Shishkin has been put down after fracturing a hind leg after getting cast in his box. A dual festival winner and a typical Henderson horse, gorgeous to look at and deadly in his early career over 2 miles. Sure to be missed.
