  • Interesting that, on their individual scales, the official handicapper and rprs both have Teahupoo Sunday's running 2lb below last year's mark in the same race. 163/161 and 168/166 respectively.

Seeing as he beat Honeysuckle I can see where they are coming from. It does appear that he may be best suited by the mid trip as Someone else mentioned. Perhaps the Stayers distance around Cheltenham is a bit beyond him.

surely honeysuckle in last years race would have something to do with that?
2 time reigning champion hurdler? he beat her for the first time.....
surely thats better than beating another sir gerhard

Definitely this, also a couple of those runs she wasn’t even put in the races whatsoever.

          Over obstacles

Royal Bond last year third, looks pretty good form.
DRF she wasn’t put in the race.
Next 2 runs in mares company she won fairly easily imo.

Yesterday I think they knew they wouldn’t have a chance against the front 2 but make sure she beat the other 2 which she did.

I did say on the line below about her RB run....?..as i consider that a decent run, the Leop one i'd say again fairly inconclusive.

              Lossiemouth, gala and ashroe

              All hard pullers

All doubtful to get up the hill over 2m4f for me
Gala won over 2m3 1/2f on heavy ground on her last start last season and the horse in 2nd that day has since won a G3 & G1. I don't think she pulls all that hard tbh.

I'd mostly agree with you about the inconclusiveness of the xmas run but would remind you that she's unbeaten against mares
I like her, and i was leaning towards love envoi but after sunday i'm thinking this mare is a big contender

I’m actually not questioning her as a mare just how much she should be upped being beaten how she was on Sunday. Personally I didn’t think much at all, 2pd is fine.

Yes. They have a job to do and they have processes to follow. They do not have the luxury of obeying their instincts or gut feelings. Punters, jockeys , trainers etc do.

My immediate feeling was that Teahupoo had improved. I am convinced the trainer believes he has and on this occasion i don’t much care about the maths involved of beating honey versus iep. On this occasion i am trusting what my instincts are telling me rightly or wrongly.

I totally get why others see the logic in the ratings and I totally get why others instinctively believe he hasn’t improved as well.

it’s why gambling for me is a glorious blend of art and science. Sometimes i favour one sometimes the other and on rare occasions they are perfectly aligned

I've already got Lossie covered for the race but...yes I agree, all need to race with a lot less enthusiasm to get home, but she is classy hence covering her for the mares anyway.

                      • Another quote from Willie I've found directly after the Triumph.....

“People are starting to think of her as a Champion Hurdler,” Mullins said. “Constitituon Hill will be hard to beat but she [Lossiemouth] will only be five next year. We might go for the Mares’ Hurdle but not many five-year-old mares go in the Champion Hurdle and if we can claim seven pounds, you never know.”

If IEP disappoints again next time perhaps they will throw her at the big one those season.

He was very cool on her going Mares Hurdle in his podcast yes. Not sure if he had heard anything.

Hasn't she ran around her mark really?
jack1092, I did start off my original post with 'Compared to Teahupoo and IEP she probably ran to her rating or possibly slightly better given that she seemed to be eased after the last, so might get raised slightly from 140?', so the view of how AD's rating might change would definitely be influenced by how you interpreted the runs of the two ahead and the two behind.

It's all good discussion, but should probably move off the General Chat - do we have a Mares Hurdle thread yet?
