Interesting that, on their individual scales, the official handicapper and rprs both have Teahupoo Sunday's running 2lb below last year's mark in the same race. 163/161 and 168/166 respectively.

Over obstacles
Royal Bond last year third, looks pretty good form.
DRF she wasn’t put in the race.
Next 2 runs in mares company she won fairly easily imo.
Yesterday I think they knew they wouldn’t have a chance against the front 2 but make sure she beat the other 2 which she did.

I like her, and i was leaning towards love envoi but after sunday i'm thinking this mare is a big contender

My immediate feeling was that Teahupoo had improved. I am convinced the trainer believes he has and on this occasion i don’t much care about the maths involved of beating honey versus iep. On this occasion i am trusting what my instincts are telling me rightly or wrongly.
I totally get why others see the logic in the ratings and I totally get why others instinctively believe he hasn’t improved as well.
it’s why gambling for me is a glorious blend of art and science. Sometimes i favour one sometimes the other and on rare occasions they are perfectly aligned

Another quote from Willie I've found directly after the Triumph.....
“People are starting to think of her as a Champion Hurdler,” Mullins said. “Constitituon Hill will be hard to beat but she [Lossiemouth] will only be five next year. We might go for the Mares’ Hurdle but not many five-year-old mares go in the Champion Hurdle and if we can claim seven pounds, you never know.”
If IEP disappoints again next time perhaps they will throw her at the big one those season.

Hasn't she ran around her mark really?
It's all good discussion, but should probably move off the General Chat - do we have a Mares Hurdle thread yet?
