  • That was an interesting bookie reaction to Ashroe Diamond's performance this afternoon in the Mares Hurdle market - 365 pushed her out to 8/1 from 7/1, whereas most of the other bookies shortened, including Paddy Power / Betfair going from 6/1 to 7/2, so quite a difference in the assessments there. Compared to Teahupoo and IEP she probably ran to her rating or possibly slightly better given that she seemed to be eased after the last, so might get raised slightly from 140? It wouldn't be up to Lossiemouth's 147, but you'd think that any closing of the gap would lead to the prices getting closer, unless 365 were anticipating something more?

    • I don't suppose anyone has tracked the dates of what other bookies put up the handicap markets?

I think they consider their own liability with cashout on some of them.

I have backed at 8/1 though today .... taking advantage of it

I'd have Ashroe rated higher than Lossie now and wouldn't be surprised to see her rated 150ish, no excuses from Zanahiyr or Buddy One and the way they finished together would suggest their current marks aren't far off right. Probably one race too many this early in the season for Buddy One. They should freshen him up now see what they can do off that mark in the Spring. My guess is they might struggle for a bit though.

Yes, going by the two that she beat you could certainly make a case for Ashroe's mark to go up a fair bit, and it wouldn't be unreasonable to expect further improvement next time out either - I'll probably try and get a bit more on too if that 8/1 holds.

Work this out for me, she was beaten 13Ls and got the 7lbs.....She's 140 and Teahupoo is 160

Hasn't she ran around her mark really?

Not sure. She was well beat wasn't she? Way behind the front two and never in the race. She'd need to step up on that performance a hell of a lot to trouble the judge in March IMO.

Yep, never quite got the fuss about her performance tbh. Still not done enough for me.

Same, creative handicapping to mark her up on that....

Still i wouldn't rule her out come March with the fav being a Juvenile coming into open company, albeit Mares Open...

She pulls really hard as well

Will she get up the hill over 2m4f?

She's won over the distance but that was beating trees and all the other fancied runners flopped after running at Cheltenham.

Never in the race? she looked like she was put in the race to me but couldn't go with the front two. I'd be much more inclined to think the front two are good young improving horses that have both put up career best performances. Take the first two out the race and you'd be looking at a comfortable victory over two 150+ horses. The last two didn't exactly pull up after the last they were ridden out when you watch the head on replay.

Of course, another question she has to answer.

I'd prefer her over 2m to be honest, the County Hurdle would probably be where I'd look at her if she got entered in it.
