  • As we enter the last weekend of February, the arrival of March, if it doesn't give much clarity yet as to Mullins bingo, never mind where Maries Rock or Luccia actually go, there does become a growing reality as to the weather. While any forecasting over 2 weeks ahead has to be taken with a pinch of salt as to exact days, the picture gets a lot more clearer as to general trends, and this year, it is looking cold for the month. Maybe having to wear that overcoat if you are going. Yes, even perhaps some snow in early March, but I don't thing it will end up as a 'Beast of the East' event which the media latched onto 2/3 weeks back, and which the same media presented as if it was actually going to happen.

By this time next week, 3/4 March, we'll have a lot more clarity.

Thanks IR …I missed all the talk about snow so didn’t even know it was heavily predicted…are you seeing something that suggests that if it does now arrive it’s not likely to be anything too significant.

      • Was snowing in Spain yesterday!

        • It may even be significant but even if it is 'cold' daytime March temperatures should be enough to clear it up relatively quickly. Forecasters seem to be in broad agreement that a Sudden Stratospheric Warming Event (SSW) is forming, but are unsure whether it has much of an effect on our local (UK and Ireland) weather. I think we’ll get some snow flurries but not much more than that. We’ll have a much better picture this time next week, for our 4 days of fun, 14-17 March.

          • Does anybody rate the weather's Cheltenham book? I'm contemplating buying it this year out of curiosity.

            • Any white smoke from bookies returning NRNB bets for horses not declared? William Hill have not returned yet. And the person on the chat didn’t seem to understand the difference between antepost and NRNB….

edit: the supervisor has now said this “The money will be refunded if ever on the same date of the horse racing.” Would love to be a fly on the wall of the interviews for the unsuccessful candidates for these jobs.

              • The million dollar question. Taking away any book bias you may have. Which horses are you most confident about in 2.5 weeks time?

                  Anyone else going?

                  • Enjoy Kempton. It must be 25 years since I was last there. I remember in the early 2000s when it was called the Racing Post Trophy, this day in itself was almost a trials day for the Festival. Most years you get the odd winner coming out of this meeting, and if I remember correctly, one year there resulted in 2 or perhaps even 3 festival winners. A different era now, and in a time of GB trainer dominance.

Thanks IR, not betting too much today, few small bets I think.
Br great just to get a bit of racing atmosphere to get the juices flowing before the big event!!

                        • Quick question regarding NRNB - when bets placed at NRNB, when are the stakes refunded? I have some that have not been entered and sure I have seen some saying they have recieved their stakes back already. I presumed it would be after final decs? Thanks in advance!

Final decs - if any go earlier it's their choice but plenty won't. When the 'ante post' market ends and they create the actual 'day of race' markets.

Some (smaller) wait until after the event but pretty rare.

Last year they were all pretty quick to give back non entrants in the handicaps.
                              Not this year though.
Not so much bothered about the money they hold, it's the fucking admin side when they all get done on declarations (especially when they don't bring the refunds to the top of the bet listings, so hopefully some get done at 6 day entries to spread the load. For my sake anyhow

Is there a podcast due to be out from last night? Just planning my Saturday, my weatherbys Cheltenham festival guide has arrived and Liverpool are on tonight
