Too young to remember him as a player other than highlights, I seem to recall him appearing in a Viagra advert or something like that, which was affectionately known as Pele's keepy uppies in my workplace.

      • How are people's positions looking post Christmas then?

Post Christmas, what now looks like your best chance at the festival?

        What bubbles have been burst?

        (question for all members)

        • Ironically, despite all the research and discussion, my best bet is simple. A treble with the best three horses at last years festival placed immediately after: Facile Vega, Galopin Des Champs, and Constitution Hill @104/1. Now in to 6/1 tops.

I’d say my position is a smidgen below where I’d like it to be. Mainly thanks to a few burst bubbles over Xmas. I really need to go through all my bets in detail though.

Far too good at the moment. Cue the DRF. Will all be in the bin after that

I hoped the christmas racing would give me clarity.....instead it's only given me 3 new bumper horses to cover off !

              • I feel like the Xmas period provided more questions than answers

The main answers we got are that blue lord has improved a significant amount since his novice season and that allegorie de vasy is a natural chaser.

and that mullins has lots of good horses and we have little to no idea where they will run until final declarations

                • Blue Lord winning the Arkle last year was the only losing (and first) leg in a life changing multiple for me last year. His improvement this season annoys me greatly

As others have said, I think we'll be waiting until the DRF to have a real idea on a lot of races. But there's a few strong looking ones that I believe most on here will have at bigger prices though, so that's nice.

I do more multiples than singles antepost, and I've ended up with a few that have strong looking selections in but one or two worrying selections also. Saint Felicien for the Turners being an odd one, but only features in one bet. Brandy Love being the main one who features in the majority of my decent looking multis. Really on the lookout for any news on her!

Will be checking that today - gut feeling is I'm not doing as well as I normally am in the Championship Races, but my Novice races (hurdles and chases) look pretty strong.

L'Homme Presse for me was the biggest bubble burst... not like his run wasn't really good, but I thought he might be a genuine superstar and it didn't work out that way.

                    • Great to see some decent sized fields at Cheltenham on New Year's Day - 86 runners in the 7 races.

The field sizes at many of England's premier meetings has been sad to see this season.

But this looks a competitive card.

Will it have much impact on the Festival? Possibly not.

But I'm hoping one Festival handicap chase winner will come out of it - provided he doesn't blow his mark on Sunday.

Sorry for the tease but rest assured that my fancies aren't worth diddly squat anyway.

And I'll be boring you to tears making a case for it once the time is right

……might be an idea to have a thread of folks current view of winners of each race. I recall we had a few of those at various stages last year.

As for me over Christmas, I suppose a mixed bag like everybody else. Queens Brook getting turned over was a bubble burst for my book, Blue Lord a plus & I got Gentlemansgame a/r into my book at fancy odds so hoping he can improve and have a live chance in March.

I have some terrific individuals in my book (FV 66-1 a/r, Potter 40-1 Turners) but don’t think I’ve got any proper multiples going, even the forum Yankees aren’t so good. Need to see what I can do on that front.

                        • Edwardstone unseating, Ahorsewithnoname bursting, Honeysuckle crown slipping off, Kilcruit disappointing, GDM improving and may go BANC, Capadanno out, The Nice Guy out, James Gate out, Sir G likely out, Zanahiyr looking like a selling plater, APT having a nightmare, Ahoy Senor Snooker table, All Supreme bets wasted as Facile winning, Turner's, BANC , Ballymore and Albert impossible to predict, Flooring floored, Brandy Love gone AWOL, Henry inexplicably sending Telmesomethinggirl chasing instead of redemption in Mares Hurdle then losing her somewhere, Hunters Yarn left in stables, Shishkin going Grand National, Pertemps Qualifiers no longer punter friendly as only top 4, Galvin looks very sad, Instit isn't Colreevy the 2nd, Might I doesn't stay, Langer Dan isn't G1 class...............

Apart from the above I'm in a fab position.

I've just sang this to the tune - A partridge in a pear tree.

Your luck will change I'm sure. At some point.
