Remember watching him play for Hereford United (his first club) as a teenager. United won the old Third Division at the time and wound up playing Wolves and Chelsea in Division Two (now the Championship) which was a step too far. But it was epic for a side who'd ploughed their furrow in the Southern League before that amazing victory over Newcastle Utd in the FA Cup (I was in the Meadow End with my mates) persuaded the football league to let them in. I think Kevin went to school in Hereford and played for the local Lads Club side before United gave him a chance. Strong for his age and great left foot even then.

Ah that would make sense, as I think he was born in Builth Wells, so Hereford would probably be the nearest big town.

Probably bought privately by another of Gordon's owners, and then pulled from the sale.

Hopefully the new owner is revealed shortly, as the horse is entered next week in a Grade 1.

                • RIP Cue Card. Only 16 years and gave us a lot of Boxing Day memories.

I'm quietly confident they've gone to JP. He looks pretty weak in the staying novice division and probably wants to have something running for him at Cheltenham. Music Drive would slot into a handicap for him too.

Very sad to hear. He was a great horse. I started watching racing from 2011 and he was one of those horses that when he ran I had to back. RIP Cue Card.

                        • Boys and girls, as we come to Christmas, both CH and GDC look bombproof with both Jonbon and FV just behind. Multis have to have these as their banker legs with one or two other value selections, surely?
