    • Elliott confirmed in racing post what many had assumed
A change of tack with his early season readiness to try and be more competitive in spring

may explain the underwhelming runs in October and first runs etc

        This makes sense.

I was only thinking over the weekend how many of his have under performed in the early stages of this season. If he has a plan lets hope it pays off otherwise it won't look great to his owners, surely.

All well and good targeting the Spring, and I'm glad he is, but it won't pay the bills if he doesn't get results.

I am more broadly worried about Elliot's approach. Some of this could be reading between the lines here.

Historically this is Gordon's festival successes
          Handicaps 46%
          Golden Pentagon 43%
          Premier Novice Hurdles 9%
          Premier Novice Chases 3%
          Premier Open Chases 6%
He has been a premier trophy hunter, targeting races with precision.

But I feel like the way he's spannering cash on new purchases and turning up mob handed to the festival last year, potentially trying to make a point post ban. It feels like something is a little bit amiss. Personally I think I'm going to steer clear of most of his novices

I read that article, some interesting numbers came from it.
He had a poor October obviously but his November winners are considerably up on last year…

He's running at a 17% win rate but that was since May through to now.

His RTF from the last 14 days is only 54%* which I think is pretty low?

I'd say he's still yet to get going properly.

I can’t post the link but below is an extract from the article (which is still on the site).

‘Elliott has tweaked his training methods this season. It is no coincidence that he had just 11 winners in October compared to double that for the same month last year. He has sent out 37 winners in November, nine more than the same month in 2021.

He said: "We went at it a little bit differently this season. We said we might just start them off a little slower, not be as hard on them early, and let them all come on for their first runs to see if they can last a little bit longer in the season. For the last couple of seasons, in the last three or four weeks of the campaign we’ve just been running on red.’

Yeah fair points from him. Hopefully it works out as it would be nice for him and for racing to be competitive at the back end of the season, the likes of Aintree and Punchestown festivals, too.

                  • He’d also benefit from not being as quick to earmark and campaign some of his horses for handicaps that turn out to be pretty solid graded performers.

I had a hunch that was the case

                      Good to have it confirmed

Fair spot that FF, I thought he was just cheating as Q alluded to…

                        • Ireland and Mr Crawford had it off at Ayr today. Brilliant prices as well.

Johnny Dinneen's jumpers should have it's own thread

                              • For anyone that has had a go on the tote 10 to follow this year. I've created a league for fat jockey, code is 000203. I'm presuming no one has created one yet.

Not that I stand any chance of winning lol, would be interesting to see other peoples selections though.
