With American Mike beaten today, it made me reflect that the Champion Bumper form isn’t working out to be that great. Aside from American Mike’s easy maiden, only Authorised Speed has since come out and won:
2nd - American Mike - won maiden but beaten over hurdles in a novice G3
3rd - James’s Gate - beaten in an awful run at the Punchestown bumper - yet to be seen since.
4th - Seabank Bistro - beaten in maiden hurdle when 4/6 fav
5th - Authorised Speed - easy winner on hurdling debut at Lingfield, but what was he up against?
6th - Poetic Music - beaten 12L on mares hurdle debut behind Luccia
7th - Our Jester - yet to run in hurdle races after a summer running indifferently on the flat
8th - Music Drive - two poor/indifferent runs at Cheltenham, albeit finishing 7L behind Hermes Allen last time out.
Does make me begin to wonder about Facile Vega…Comment

When turning out at Punchestown at the end of the season FV was not 100% and he improved again on that previous result beating AM by 15+ lengths & Seabank Bistro by 67+ lengths.. so they’re poor performances over hurdles are not too much of concern regarding FV.
Good observation made tho regarding the form.

For a long, long time the Champion Bumper winners kept getting over bet and beaten at Cheltenham.... a few recent years have changed the perception, and you'll struggle to get people playing down Facile Vega before a run... so it's an interesting angle.Originally posted by Mighty View Post

American mike can be forgiven.
poetic music was beaten by potentially the next honeysuckle.
authorised speed beat scene one 22 lengths. last season gelino bello beat scene one by 15 lengths, gelino bello went on to grade 1 glory last season. and i believe autthorised speed will too.

God knows where the Arkle thread is so I'll just say this here. I am looking forward to seeing Dysart Dynamo break cover on Thursday in the beginners chase at Thurles. Hopefully he hoses up and makes my stupidly early (March) antepost 2023 arkle bet looks like a genius move!
