I think that depending on how he runs prior and during xmas.
If they then decide that the Grand National is a serious option, then the Cross country has to be a close call as a prep, rather than the Gold Cup.
Basically if they think he's got a good chance off whatever mark he's on when the weights are released for the National, I think it's more likely he takes in the Cross Country as a prep rather than the Gold cup, unless this cuts up. Gordon would find this an easy enough persuasive factor.
And he's mentioned him being a National horse all along, it just went tits up last year as he improved so much, and performed better than they probably thought in the early season graded races.

That price was mad.
Now after tomorrows prep-run his "Gold Cup" (as Gordon called it) is to take on Frodon at Down Royal in 3 weeks time (in his "Gold Cup" as Paul Nicolls calls it), plus maybe Minella Indo again, or some new kids.
The play for anyone holding big-priced slips on Galvin for the XC is that they would want him to lose at Down Royal, and in the Savills, at Christmas, prior to him being put away for Cheltenham.
He may come down a few lbs in the handicap if that has happened, and head for a main target of the Grand National, after a run in the X-C.
As cover for that hope being dashed, then its easy enough for folk with that hope, to back Galvin to win at Down Royal."Journeys to Glory, breathing in his head".

Was scanning through this article on at the races, and saw that Impervious is apparently going chasing this year:
Twenty British and Irish-based jockeys nominate their horses to follow to attheraces.com's Declan Rix.
Impervious (Brian Hayes quote)
“I’m looking forward to the Colm Murphy-trained Impervious going chasing this season; she was only beaten 7 lengths by Love Envoi at Cheltenham so if she can improve for a fence, she could be one to look forward to.” (Colm Murphy)
I know Saxon was interested in her last year, and she ran some high RPRs, albeit her Cheltenham performance was down on what she could do. I can't see her priced up anywhere, but curious if anyone else thinks she might be an EW bet in what seems like a weak division this year.

On Galvin - Elliott was interviewed today on RTV ahead of tomorrows race and when asked about the Cross Country said "whether we go this year or next year it'll be another route to go". On top of his interview a week or so ago.
I actually can't believe the prices they introduced him at.
I even think 16/1 is pretty fair. Let alone 25-33/1.
Sometimes you see horses get added into a market when they have no real chance of lining up there.
Whilst that is obviously an outcome that could happen, him going for the race is certainly a serious consideration.
Galvin was 10/1 for the Cross Country last summer which was at the time considered fair.
He's now proven he's a grade one chaser, rated 13lb higher than last summer and having come 4th in a Gold Cup.
But realistically for me he's got little chance then bettering that (in the GC) this year. And I think Gordon knows that.
When news broke that Delta Work may be aimed at the race (after news of him schooling at the track) - was he even double figures? I'm not sure he was, he came into the market short.
Absolutely no debate that anyone could fancy his chances more than Delta Work at this stage.
DW has been there, done it. You never know how Galvin will take to the discipline.
But they'd be so far ahead of the rest of the contenders. A big, big price.
