That was the last season I remember knowing/caring about the UK trainers title.

      Hope he does target it.

Last time, he got blown away though by the Grand National didn't he, so gave up?

        Sandown, finale day.
Nicholls won the Whitbread and Mullins pulled all his horses out of the later races.
A low point in NH racing that and from memory he was given a one thousand pound fine…

Aaaahh yes, I remember the pulling of horses now.

The one thousand pounds fine, no wonder he didn't try again for a while... must have really made a dent.

Could well be Ice, about 10 mins from post time as she was being paraded I think.
Like I said, a low point for racing that…

The one benefit of Mullins dominating Ireland is it encourages them to come across the Irish Sea more often, rather than some of the farcical scenes we had in tight seasons between him and Elliot when horses like Getabird ran twice in 4 days just to try and get a bit of prize money

                  Good point that.
But have we not seen the likes of Nichols doing the same in the past ?
I'm all for a great title battle but flogging horses deep into April that would normally be in a field isn't good for racing...

That battle between Pipe & Nicholls was brutal, would never get away with that nowadays.

….perhaps he has one he thinks has a big chance in the National, only one I can see remotely near the head of the market is Burrows Saint.

Was in the perfect position last year and faded badly to finish 30 lengths back.

Was originally carrying the same weight this year as last. Guess that’ll change with the likes of Galvin being scratched, but still, can’t be on my raydar for anything other than place money.

He does have between a 5lb - Over a stone turn around with all the other top 5 horses from last year, still only 9.

                            • Watched a replay of last year's race yesterday. He travelled like the winner didn't he and then faded badly. You wouldn't think an Irish national winner has any problems with staying but it did seem that way didn't it. Some effort to get beat 30 lengths from how he looked 2 out. I'd expect similar this year to be honest, but should run a really good race and get some good prize money.

                              • I went through my tracker after the festival and was wondering whatever happened to the 4-y-o Matterhorn who was sent to Paul Nicholls and included in one of the FJ yankees. I emailed the yard and they were kind enough to reply and advise that he had suffered a small setback but he is well and will be back next year.
