I know we've had some disappointing races with number of runners down but the Betfair Chase could be a very good renewal - especially in terms of numbers and competitiveness.
Pleasantly surprised.

Great to see one or two Irish heading for the race.
I've often thought it's a calendar oddity that the race is run a week before the Hennessy as surely many of the horses entered in one could run in the other...

Quite often the horses Willie purchases at this sale don’t make the track until the following season as it’s quite late by the time he receives them and then settle into the yard and regime. As they’re all novices for this season, Willie may take a shot to nothing and run them in a graded race later in the season and if they lose, keep them back for novice hurdling next season. Alternatively he may just give them maximum time to acclimatise and they won’t run at all until next season.
