Guys, what’s the walk away price for a pint of the black stuff? ?6.80 last weekend, admittedly served in a glass, but it’s only a fiver at York. Equally ?90 for a bottle of non vintage champagne, only ?35 at York. Perhaps I’m just turning into a tight old git, but I might just drink on way up and on way back from course.

That said "insisted" is doing some heavy lifting there. If you're retained jockeys and your boss has entries in the same race, that's your job right?
“It’s hard for Jack having to get off a Gold Cup winner but he rides a lot of our horses here and we’re hoping that Delta Work is our Gold Cup horse.”
It's obviously not saying that Galvin is, but interesting comment all the same.

For anyone that can do the maths, it's so bad that I'd drunk the Cheltenham Guinness equivalent of two bottles of York champagne before we'd reached the last race!Luck is a dividend of sweat. The more I sweat, the luckier I get.

The issue now with Cheltenham being cashless is you have a forever reminder on your bank statement.
3 drinks, guinness, cider and lager costs ?20.40, no idea of the breakdown but it's getting close to 7 quid a pint.
I also paid ?2.80 for a very small cup of takeaway tea on Saturday, so it's not just beer...

Did they have plenty of bar staff on?

I've heard of the ?6.80 pints and have to say, it's a real bummer. Yeah there's event mark ups, but that is outrageous. I was at a festival in September where it was ?5.50 a pint, and it was a fairly decent craft number. Near 7 quid for mass poured Guinness is trash

The usual array of clueless students that have been dragged out of lectures and thrown in a uniform; none of them have any idea what a lager top is, guinness and black met with total bemusement and after explanation she asked if my mate wanted a separate cup for the blackcurrant.
Same round half a dozen times, six different totals.
The course was way busier than expected so bars were very busy, See You Then bar was OK until about 12.30pm then it was eight deep and a long wait, members bar no better in the new stand, it may be they were caught out by the size of the crowd and/or had insufficient staff.
The easiest bar to get a beer was the ground floor level of the new stand, go in and move down the bar and it was fine, but it'd a bar devoid of daylight and poor lighting so not the best place to be.
None of the above ruins your day, and I'm not sure any venue in history has ever got it right, you have to half expect it to be a ballache...
