kicks off with 2 G1s over the minimum trip under both codes for novices, then a solid 3m hcap that can usually be punter friendly and goes the Uk way. Ch headlines and is finally getting decent again after a lull. Mares hurdle is g1 in name only but getting better year on year, boodles not my cup of tea but then finishes with an ever improving race in the Nh chase which again is pretty solid for punters on here. Just a gem of a day which is the only one of the four to feature all 7 races of official graded merit to back up my musings

        • Anyone done Haydock for a Saturday flat meet? My experience of flat tracks with relatively good crowds is that course organisation is either superb, or a 40min+ queue for a drink (Newmarket on 2000 Guineas Day, never again...), so always curious when visiting a new spot about what to expect. Or just Haydock recommendations in general? Cheers in advance!

Wife went to bar all day, so no idea of any queue's, the parade area is lovely, but the stands a bit of a concrete jungle (not quite as bad as Heysel, but not far off)
Funniest memory was our lass bringing back two indian takeaways (in those polystyrene trays you get fish and chips in), with a popadom on top of each (nice touch I thought).

It was windy as fuck (which my Mrs seemed to have forgotten), and both popadom's blew off the tray's as she walked towards me, and unfortunately (for our lass) they had curry on them which splashed her lovely dress.
So the best advice I can give is to hold on tight to your popadom's.
And that is surely something everyone should always have in mind, wherever they are.

FFS... My thoughts to the long suffering Mrs Quevega! And all those who may be suffering from flying popadom PTSD, we're here for you.

You won't have to queue too long for a pint, they've always been well set up when I've been. It's worth paying a little extra for a club/premium ticket though on a Saturday.

It's a decent course for viewing - tight and flat.

Couldn't comment on the quality of the food but looks like Q has that covered

                • Does anyone have any experience of the Grandstand enclosure at Donny? I'm planning on going on St Leger day and that's all that's left other than ridiculously priced restaurants. It's not a dedicated racing day, more of a double date where I'm asking my mate to be best man, so view of the line isn't too important

You can go and stand on the rail near the finish line at Donny.
                    Or view from the stands.
The suit wearers are in an enclosure beyond the finish line,
Inside there is a very big hall with all the bars and plenty of tables etc.

Only issue with Donny tends to be the majority of bar staff that appear to have been bussed in from another planet, so tend to take some time, and operate at a couple of notches above an Amoeba.
                    Pleasant, but lack basic training/knowledge.
Really fucked with there heads the other week when I asked for a glass of tap water.
Supervisor got involved, and blamed Covid for the confusion.

Cheers Q. I don't mind the bar confusion, I'll be sending the Mrs up there

Nice writeup TOTG! Interesting that you think Classic Getaway will stick to bumpers next season.
