I think it's more the case of all the NR's coming at once rather than who they were....
Mainly handicappers that we're excited about.... mainly because of Gordon Elliott's handicap record.
If you were gonna lose 5 ante post horses in one go, they'd be in the freaking handicaps.
We've lost one fav? (Joint fav, Run Wild Fred) and we all know we'll back for the Irish National....

Sorry don't mind me just passing to let off bit of steam, trying not to lose the plot, in other situations like this I could lose discipline and start backing things as a result of numerous non runners! Don't know why I'm venting in here but surprisingly it has calmed me down slightly and not thinking of diving in 2 feet! Breathe, sleep on it and have a look tomorrow!

There were a few positives to take from it too, and even a one or two we didn’t think would travel. It’s got to be better being put out of your misery in one go, than listening to Willie Mullins talk a load of waffle about the 5 different targets he’s still weighing up for every one of his horses

I found myself a bit deflated before....
RWF/Conflated/Wide Receiver/Farouk D'Alene/Column Of Fire
All horses that were very, very nice winners and horses I fancied quite a lot.....
but go back 7 days, none of them were running anyway.....

I think its a fair point ToniC - few weeks back I was working out where i stood with the no Elliott runners (It would have been a blood bath) so yes this is nothing in comparison to the shit show that could have been. But still a blow to lose so many, even if it was just a run for my money with those that were outsiders, some well fancied ones were shorties with a huge chance.
New day and thinking positively. Finish work today then thats me off for the the fez! Bring it on

By the sounds of it races are going to cut up more than other years. Anyone got a big fancy that is priced up like it wont get but if it did it might be half the price or shorter? I've so much money tied up already no point stopping now. Got to be a few that get in that nobody thought would get in. NRNB is great for this obviously

Reading that Gig stable tour on ATR was a mix of a few low blows followed by the odd jab getting through for hope for me. I’d got RWF & Conflated in a lot of good looking multis with HGL, Eclair & Embittered. Whilst I’m annoyed at the obvious I’ve woke up this morning still looking at the positives - like a few have posted, no Gig or Elliott runners would have been FAR worse so have to take the positives! I’ve also got a nice slip with Shattered Love’s name on it at 14s & like the positive vibes on her chances against the hot pot

Not sure if this belongs in the stupid questions thread but was more of an observation, probably plenty on here already aware of it.
Was looking at the weights on novices whether it’s hurdles or chases and the Irish horses always carry more weight than their British counterparts. Is this why it’s so easy for them to come over and raid all our big prizes?
I know both sides of the Irish Sea have different ratings for handicaps but had never paid too much attention to the novices.
Appreciate it - debut 12st, then 11.12 in 2 Grade 1’s
Metier - debut 10st 12lbs, then 11.5, finally 11.7 in a Grade 1
On debut that’s a massive 14lbs difference! Then even looking at the supreme Appreciate It will carry 5lbs less than ever before. Metier carries the same as his Grade 1 win.
Similar story with the chases.
Energumene - debut 12st, then 11.10, finally 11.12 in Grade 1
Shishkin - debut 11.2, again 11.2, finally 11.5 in a Grade 2
Again a massive 10lbs difference from debut and then looking at the Arkle Energumene will carry 8lbs less than his lowest weight. Shishkin 1lbs less. In our Grade 1 novice they carried 11.2 thats 10lbs less than the Irish Arkle trial.
