Trainers can still leave them in as many as they want at the 6 day stage, but once declared for a festival race they cannot be declared for another regardless of whether they run in that race or not.

Yep, by ‘declared’ you mean the final declaration stage which comes at 48 hours...

The 6 day entry stage requires another payment I believe so trainers will take horses out at that point if they know they won't be running. The 48 hour decs commit the horse to run in a specific race, so when declared at that stage the horse can't then run in another race unless balloted out of the first declaration.

Thanks makes sense.. so really 6 days is committing to Cheltenham and 48 hours to a set race

Gordon won't have been doing every single thing all by himself, they'll have systems, teams, people in place and responsible for everything and it'll be ticking over the same as it was?

I'm not worried about it at all
Absolutely. Not a chance on earth he’s not going to be running the show.

Most of it now, is mind games I think. The trainers now full well know exactly where each and every horse of theirs is going.

Not neccessarily, some horses will be more ground dependent than others, so the short range weather Forecast and decision on watering will be taken into account.

Just goes to show how important it is to get the ride right at the festival, and even the Greats get it wrong sometimes. I remember the year Yanworth was beat, I was waiting on a big return, and remember watching back and seeing the difference rides given by Barry and Ruby.

What I took out of that clip was

                  1) Reiterates the benefit and advantage of having an experienced jockey onboard
                  2) You need a horse that travels at pace

I know none of this new, but its help narrow down the fields
I was on Yanworth and had big pocket talk watching Bazza that day "wtf is he doing!" but hearing him talk about how day 2 he goes wide for fresh ground and talking through the rough passage he got through the race I realised I was unduly harsh.

I liked how the two of them and AP hung together in races cos they knew if a fellow good judge of time was nearby they must be ok.

Geraghty talking through his ride on Epatante last year was absolutely fascinating

Fairy sure it's 6 days. Fucking madness that we have to wait for some chap with a highlighter to let us know the story on twitter.

Fair play to him all the same

It should be when they get round to it, usually 6 day decs they start to, I guess they've probably got a lot to sort out.
