I've always been impressed by how well run Cheltenham is, but 2000 Guineas Day at Newmarket was absolutely dire for example and there can be such a big difference in how courses manage big crowds. Went Boxing Day a few years ago and it's grand. Plenty of space imo

There have been times where I've been underwhelmed by Cheltenham tho - some of the bars on Tuesday and Friday can be absolutely car crashes

...not DRF, but been over to Leopardstown a few times and it’s terrific. I think it was Peter O’Sullivan who said it was his favourite course. Last went about 18months ago & booked a table for the family in the restaurant overlooking the parade ring, really good value.

yep went last year and very impressed...easy access to stands, bookies and drink. Great view of the track and easy enough to get to from Dublin center. definitely going again but that Sunday with superbowl in the late evening Is some test of endurance

              • Leopardstown is fab, been a couple of times. Loads of space, easy to get a bet on and no daft queue for a pint.
A 30 minute tram ride from Dublin centre.
                What's not to like ??

Yep, just waiting for the next shoe to drop followed by a pair of clogs. It's too quiet as well, with very little if any new news coming out of the Festival previews.

We shouldn't complain though because it will get manic again once the 6 day declarations start rolling in.

                      I'm not to be fair.

After last week, I just feel totally relaxed now.

Will probably never be as 'lucky' to have so much time to dedicate to it so close, with lockdown and WFH.... it's been amazing.

Back to work properly tomorrow though as the schools are back, so will be slow on the uptake and any news is just going to be bad news.... hopefully it flies by.

                      • For me this year especially seems to mean more than previous years.

Maybe because I haven't really had anything else to look forward to other than the festival. Or maybe its because I probably haven't been in such a good position with my ante post bets.

The way I bet is possibly silly but I dont tend to have single bets. All of my bets are multiples all in different combinations. I'm not a huge stake sort of guy (10 pound bets usually) but jesus I've got some really good looking doubles and trebles which all pay around the 1000 pound mark.

                        I'm dreaming of Dubai !!!!

Its great when you feel your bets are ready to run well for you.

                          Good luck Kauto.

I am feeling its 'twiddling thumbs' time now before the 5-day entries start on Wednesday afternoon.

Then we get the adrenaline going seeing whos dropped out, and how the prices have moved from Weds through to Saturday.

Then (the big drum roll) Sunday morning the 48-hour final decs for Tuesday.

I keep looking at my positions, and feel I know theres nothing I want to change at this time, and just waiting for Wednesday to see how Day 1's entries are shaping up.

Then I will know if my Day 1 bets have survived that new 'jolt' of information and if anything else is looking good to add to the team.

                          • Is anybody else excited at the idea of more Mullins runners at Aintree?

The trainers championship is now a walkover so I’m very hopeful he sends more horses over for it similar the year he nearly won the UK Trainers championship

With regards to news coming out of preview nights,I thought the little snipet of info from Paul Nicolls about Harry Cobden deciding to ride Chameron in the fox hunters instead of Bob and Co interesting! Bob is second fav and Chameron is still available at 20/1!!

I’ve been every year and the layout is fantastic. You also don’t get the volume of people like cheltenham so the size of the course can cope.

I have had an awesome experience every year and would definitely recommend it. I don’t think I have been to a better two day event and certainly feels like a mini cheltenham with the racing on offer
