  • Newbury almost certainly going to be off on Saturday, already provisionally rescheduled for Sunday 21st and you just have to think the British trainers have really been done over by abandonments & the inability/inflexibility to reschedule meetings. The last 2 Cheltenham meetings both been abandoned and only partially rescheduled, losing quite a few key preps for festival races particularly the handicaps, and even when rescheduled they graded races were run at different tracks robbing horses of the key course experience their trainers had planned for them. Now Newbury is almost certainly off, being moved to the Sunday after that means any horses planning to run there will have less than 4 weeks between that & their planned festival engagements.

No real point to this, just my observations, but add to this fact that the British challenge probably looks the weakest overall it has done for some years, Ireland could really mop up this time.

    • I see Sky Pirate is doubly entered this weekend. Does anyone know his 1st preference?

The handicapper had put him up to 147 over hurdles (new rating) but it looks like he can run in the Betfair off 140 so that might force their hand down the Betfair Hurdle route.

Betfair hurdle is first preference, shows the preferences on the RP site under his entries when clicking on either race.

Thanks Outlaw. I was hoping that would be the case.

If the meeting is abandoned and rerun the following weekend, would entries be reopened? If they aren't, I'm assuming he runs off 140.

Happy to be corrected but so long as it's at the same course all things stand i believe. His rating can't be touched as any raise was after the entries originally, just like any horse with the 5lb penalty for winning a hurdle race after entries and getting the 5lb penalty as opposed to what the future rating would be.

Excellent. That's good news at least

              • For those of you that have access to an 888bet account, just a warning in case they do this regularly- they applied a rule 4 to a race with no official non runners, only reserves not making it in the race.
Their T+Cs explicitly say that that will not be done, so it could've been a one-off error but i presume their bets are paid out automatically so just in case.

They don't have a live chat function either, so it takes a few days to get a reply, and when i got a reply from Julian, he gave me a "free bet" for the trouble and said a trader would reply. Again, some days later, no reply, i emailed + received a reply saying a colleague had fixed it with a free bet, so, trying to pay me the extra as a free bet.

Fixed in the end, probably my fault for using a shit bookie, but they were standout price at the time.

888 after are the standout price on oddschecker, but every interaction I've had, admittedly minimal, makes them seem like a well shonky shop

Aye I don't really understand why we're so bad at rescheduling, even when we do then races are often at different courses like you say, which to me is very unsatisfactory. Irish racing has come in for a decent bit of stick on the organisational front recently but they've been spot on for rescheduling meets quickly at the same course.

Probably easier for you to head to gaulstats, there’ll be a comprehensive review of each race/winner in there...

In the first 2 days of last years Festival, Ferny Hollow was the only one. He ran on 22nd Feb before winning the Bumper. CBA to go thru days 3 and 4.
