  • With the Cheltenham Festival now less than seven weeks away, Lydia Hislop and Ruby Walsh reflect upon recent performances on the track from First Flow, Royal...

Ruby's bit on race tactics and positioning (think someone else mentioned it last night) is excellent and shows how much, especially at the top level the jockey's decision making can makes the difference between winning and losing.

The Hurricane Fly defeat was particularly interesting to me as I couldn't believe he got beat that day.
But when I looked at the timings after the race, it was clear that the front 2 had set almost perfect, steady, relentless fractions and the race was lost at the start.

It doesn't matter how good your horse is, it can be hard to make up ground on horses who are going the perfect pace for their ability, in the conditions on the day, unless they are miles worse than your own horse.

Wasn't as impressed with Ruby's split screening of the 2 mares though, as they were obviously different races, especially the finishing efforts.
Not to mention the 6lb weight differential.

    • Noticed there’s a “will Irish horses run at the Cheltenham festival” on the exchange now. Another market I can watch like a saddo

Yeah I’m pretty confident the Irish will be there, I was 100% sure last years festival was going to bite the dust tho! Week later and it would of.

Spent all the festival build up last season watching the “Will Cheltenham go ahead market”
