Going to the sales so no private purchase by the Morans, they’ll have to take on the other big hitters. I have a feeling it’s going to go astronomical > 500K

Yeah, seems the original info was wrong.

You'd expect a very large fee, for sure.

      • Gents, what % of your betting for the festival would be antepost? Would you’s bet much in the week itself, be it day to day or after decs?

I stick to 2k AP and 1k for the week itself. Probably makes a difference that im up there Monday to Friday evening so plenty to keep me occupied!

Probably in the region of 90% ante-post for me.

Any bets on the week generally will be filling any gaps that are left to make a full book (if that’s what I’m after in a particular race), making the most of any specials on the day, as well as some handicap bets (often permed each way doubles with better place terms on the day). Utilising the specials gave me a couple of my biggest individual returns in 2020 as I wouldn’t have backed Lisnegar Oscar without the PP in shop special of money back as a free bet of up to ?20 if Paisley Park won - as well as the 150/1 (also with PP) for the first four home in the AB.

Before this season about 1% AP! This year it'll probably be around 20% as i've all but written off attending, so have started to play with some of that money. Probably puts me in a very small minority on here! I love reading the opinions on here and there's tons of useful info, but i've always been more about the buzz of betting on course on the day myself (i've been to some incredibly sparsely populated midweek meets around the country...).

I'd say I'm usually 80-85% done by the time the festival comes around.

Around 90% antepost, and 10% while I am staying down in Cheltenham on Festival week.

That 90% done does include some bets on the week before the Festival as the 5-Day decs for races come out from Weds-Saturday Pre-Festival, when some new bets are struck NRNB and the odd cash-out too.

Usually 70%-ish done at the point the Handicap Decs come out, and then the Weights the following week, with NRNB on all races, then new bets placed, and some cashed-out.

You really can't beat the buzz of betting and winning with on course bookies rather than tapping away on the phone and watching from home.

For me probably about 25% ante post 75% the week itself. Love an ante post bet, but also like placing larger wagers at smaller prices once I have final decs and a more complete picture. Epatante this year is a good example. I wouldn't touch her at 7/2 now because I don't think that's good value, but if she shows herself to be in good form this season and the race looks as weak next year as it did this year, then I'd have no problem weighing in at even money with a larger stake than normal, hence the 25/75 split.

This will split opinion and it has in the past, but I completely agree Lobos. Bookies handing me large wedges of cash is nothing short of fu*king joyous.

No doubt you can get better value online but, as you say, can't beat the wedge and looking into a crying bookies eyes. Being there and seeing everything else being rowed along and then looking at your horse swinging off the bridal is a wonderful feeling and then running down the steps of the stand to get to the front of the paying out queue is glorious. A pint to celebrate with your mates in the bar after and then onto the next race. Boy do I miss it !!!!! Cunting Covid. Long live the Vaccine!!!!!

That's 2 trophies already then. Worst and best. I'll have to get a cabinet to put them in.
