I'm interested to know how you guys record losses for specials that carry over to the following season.
For instance a horse to win a race at the 2024 festival and the 2025 festival, but they lose at the 2024 festival so the bet is dead for 2025, would you record this against losses in 2024 or 2025? Or maybe split the lost stakes for each year?
It's something I've been meaning to ask for a while, and whilst not hugely important, I'm intrigued as to how each person goes about this.
The few that I've done would be a 2025 roll up loss as the final outcome/settling of the bet would be in 2025
EDIT - I have none of these for this year, that's just how I would report them if I had

I'd record in the season the bet was settled. In this instance I'd record the loss in 2024. If it had won and was live going into 2025, I'd move the stake into 2025 accounts.

Agreed.
More to the point, if/when affordability checks come in, I'm fairly sure that's how the bookies would view it in terms of net loss in a particular period.

I'd settle in the year ... so if a 2024 horse lost, it's lost in that season
If the 2024 horse won, no winnings for 2024 but moves to live for 2025

Losers in 2024
Id have those in 2024 as dead-lost bets totals
Winners in 2024
Id have those in 2025 as active stakes on the 2025 horse.

I would record it as a 2024 loss as the bet is already dead. Basically, the date of the losing leg is reported.
I also class failed roll up attempts in my general/daily betting record rather than my Cheltenham record. It's something I need to analyse as it's easy to get carried away with roll up attempts(that lose) but are then hidden in your profitable daily P/L.

I always add things to the festival the final leg is in, I do the same with roll up attempts
Tweeted skybet yesterday asking for a horse to win any race at the 2025 Festival. There reply this morning was we are not offering win any race till MUCH closer the fest!

The Twitter account operators know nothing. I remember last year I asked a bookie when their prices for the next years festival would be out and they gave exactly the same response -"much closer to the festival". 3 days later and the books were published.
Reflecting on last week, it was like the magic had been zapped out the festival. Certainly the tuesday.
There is too much choice for novices too. In my opinion, the intermediate novice races should be handicaps. Tells you all you need to know when the Plate was the best race of the week
Gaelic Warrior is fair, IMO. A little over 2/1 to dutch both his likely races (QMCC & Ryanair) at the best current prices.
He hit a 170 RPR in the Arkle, which was the same as Protektorat in the Ryanair & 3lbs higher than Captain Guinness in the QMCC. He'll be a threat wherever he turns up, so I'm in and just had 5pts on.

It's only a good price if he goes Ryanair/doesn't lose between now and then
If he takes on el fabiolo he'd be that price on the day
