  • My second festival without much betting interest except for a fun bet on The Goffer, thanks to my friend.

Racing has never been solely about betting for me but i'm usually heavily into three races that define the meeting.

Looking through the entire meeting last night it reminded me of the recent DRF and looks a bit of a yawn at this moment.

I cannot see myself sitting through the pre-racing food and wine tasting in this year's build up.

I have become involved with a few small shares in the Owner's group and Oli's Bells Treasure Time with William Haggis to keep me involved.

    • Nice little reminder that however the exchange moves (assuming they're right) have treated you, can always be much worse...

Turned out COVID year was my best ever Festival profit wise by a country mile. Absolutely gutted I couldn't be there with my mates to enjoy it like we should have. Fucking Zoom Festival. So sad. Made the most of it though.

              • Sad news today about Mark Bradstock dying.
Had his first winner for well over a year the other day .

Him and his Mrs worked wonders to win a Gold Cup, a proper piece of training with a novice. He who dares.

Actually backed Mr Vango for the NH chase the other day after he won by half the track.
Be a lovely story for that to beat the big boys.

I'll be having a bit on him on the day. As you say it'll be a fitting story. Cheltenham are full of those.

Same. I had so much disposable cash and time on my hands + large amounts of luck, it was like printing cash. Doubt I'll ever hit those heights again. If Envoi had stayed upright I'd probably have stopped betting altogether for how much I'd have won. Celebrated it all a video call with a bottle of Bollinger and a KFC in my living room wasn't really the one though

                            Yes, very sad.
Be great if Mr V could win for them.
Got a chance as well I think if it’s soft conditions.
I backed him earlier this week after reading an article about the horse.

Bit of a shock i'd say ., Mr Vango , won the Devon National by 60 lengths . And who can forget Coneygree .
so he went out on a high i hope .

                              • An eccentric West Country farmer booked a top rider for a horse in a poor chase and told him that the beast would win easily, but he’d have to shout “HUP!!” loudly at every fence. The jockey dismissed the instructions as the bletherings of a madman and rode as normal, but the horse proceeded to blunder so badly at the first few fences that he was tailed off.

Chastened by this experience, the rider, now out of earshot of the others and the crowd, decided to shout the command at the next fence, which his mount flew. This continued for the rest of the race, with the combination passing three in the air at the final fence to win in a photo.

“Well done,” said the farmer. “But what the hell happened at the start?”

“Oh,” replied the embarrassed jockey. "I think the horse might be a bit deaf!"

"Deaf?! Deaf?!” came the startled reply. “He’s not deaf lad – he’s f***ing blind!!"
