To be honest I find it a necessary tool,I can’t do the digital thing.
Seems I was ahead of myself though, the increase is from next week…

      • Always takes a price hike Cheltenham week doesn't it? Like many I use to enjoy it most Saturdays and for each day of the Festival, but all the information and detail I need is now available online elsewhere and free. Trying to rack my brains, don't think I've bought the RP over the last 7-8 years.

If I was given a copy for free as I got to the course, I don't think I'd take it.

More of a hassle carrying it and finding a spot to place it down that wasn't already occupied by a beer spillage doesn't outweigh its value for me

            • Ridiculous price now but get it every day at the Fez. Part of the experience sat there 10.30am with a breakfast sandwich, pint and meticulously studying the RP trying to pick out a horse in the Supreme at a huge price that'll finish top 8 to take advantage of the EW offer. Or looking through the 4 page pull out of the horses with previous festival form which is so helpful when selecting my Ew Handicap doubles and stops me missing the odd bit of precious information. There will be one or two quotes from trainers, owners or Jockeys in there that makes me sit up and say wow and then pass on that info to the group for them to digest and comment. It's a necessary piece of the Jigsaw.

              • Nick Luck Podcast (yesterday)

Confirmed yesterday that Cheltenham Racecourse are reverting back to their Press Day being on the Tuesday next season.

Which means no 24-hour Embargo of weights info to the gen-pop.

So the public get the weights, when the trainers, bookies, press do.

Thank goodness for common sense winning out.

I'm in the same boat as you here Lobos.

I never buy it apart from the 4 days. If I'm not at the festival I have a routine of walking to the shops, buying it and mulling over the handicaps with a fry up. At the course it just goes in my back pocket between races, I also ticked one off the bucket list when I threw my paper as Samcro crossed the line in the ballymore. - I'm sure most people hate those people but I'm
proud of it. (However I also popped a button on my suit in the celebration)

I genuinely find it easier using the paper to check through form for the handicaps than online. You can compare much quicker than having to flick through 4-5 links online/on your phone to look at 2 horses.

Haha, I'm surprised anyone on here for as long or as often as you would be leaving it as late at 10.30am on the Tuesday without knowing what you're backing in the Supreme and relying on a one-liner sentence under the horses name to make a difference.

Not knocking people who do it enjoy it that way at all, I just am surprised anyone on here would play it that way... I could be wrong. I have been at least once before.

I think there can be a benefit to take an "on the day" view as a separate aside from antepost/book building.

Realistically we all bet on the day before we started doing antepost and if you can, it's good to look at things with fresh eyes. Particularly true before Skybet dropped the offer to ?2, an outsider may catch the eye because of the benefit of money back where as antepost they maybe wouldn't.

Yeah, I definitely agree with that. Literally just used that phrase "fresh eyes" on the Ballymore thread.

I suppose I just know from the 6 days right through and then that 48 hours I'll have looked at every single horse running.... but maybe I'm sadder than most

Labaik on the day was a good example.

"on the day" views have the ultimate amount of clarity to them.

None of the ability to "cashout", "lay" or "write-off or bin" because we backed something and now dont like the bets.

Just like one/back one, like one/back one - with all the jockeys, weather, opposition etc in the knowledge bank.

                              Betting at its purist.

Some of my favourite bets were on-the-day bets despite being an avid antepost backer, who loves getting involved early on.

Those on the day bets seem so much sweeter when you have a bolt of absolute clarity on whats going to happen today, and back them in the morning, and then get to the track and see it all played out in front of you.
