If they don't make it more competitive, it''ll slowly fade.
It's waning now and the season itself is dire, before we get to the festival itself.
It really is shit, lets be honest.
We're all fucking mad
I suppose you’d probably have to make it a grade 2 or something? If they’re genuinely good enough they should run in the champion/stayers hurdles imo.
Totally agree, it's been the basis of many arguments in here over the years.
And of course the Mares Hurdle was a G2 until a few years ago, as soon as they upgraded it to a G1 the intention was clear they wanted the best Mares there, and the dilution that creates...

We were lucky that honeysuckle was with Henry the past 2 years, other trainers I’m not sure would have been so brave
Why does anybody even want the Boodles still about? Who wants to be seeing anything other than the best 4yo competing that early in their career, lose the skullduggery if there seems to be one or two really good juveniles either side of the sea. I don't even care if it's a "good betting race" Bin it !

Completely agree, hate the Boodles with a passion, only reason it can be seen as a good betting race is the fact half the field spend their season trying to hide the true ability to plot for this. Getting rid of this might help boost the field sizes of the triumph again too.
A lot of time is given to PP / BFSB market moves as generally being a guide to the market with Mullins runners, presumed to be due to Ruby Walsh etc, but I wonder how much is the fact that they can see the “right” people making moves on the exchange now that they are the same firm as Betfair? There must be some accounts that are always on the right side of market moves that are active on the exchange only…
Might have had one or two too many Neck Oils though
My initial reaction to Quevegas comment on binning it was to think of the tradtion of it.
But when I think on it, pre changes it had become quite the unedifying spectacle - we used to have Cheltenham on in the office and the NH chase was the race that lost us that privilege. Since the changes its been uncompetitive. Rock and a hard place. I actually could see a case for it getting yeeted

Grand Annual is the oldest isn't it? National Hunt chase is clear 2nd though. Foxhunters after that.

One of the biggest barriers to change and one of the main reasons any sport begins to wane in popularity is the determination to maintain tradition and history.
And old people. They might be wise, but they're not that forward thinking or open minded, for obvious reasons.
All changes take time to become accepted and create their own traditions and history. But the elder statesmen won't allow it, or will fight it.
Same in other aspects of life really, innate selfishness of the human mind.
