  • TBH I don't care for podcasts as tipping services. I like racehour, so this isn't a slight for them but their 2021 preview session they all kept going "Appreciate It is too short" but none of them went "Appreciate It is short because he's the likeliest winner" - I get that it maybe might not make the best content but it feels like everyone is just filling in the air - say what you want about Tony Calvin, but he's one of the few who has the ability to go "not a betting race for me" and move on.

So I find the ones I tend to enjoy are ones that are more of a discussion and a platform for voices I hold in esteem. I did enjoy Weighed In cos there was no real betting chat, just the issues, but Blake has had his edges sanded off a bit, and having Ryle as the host makes it a bit lopsided as it feels like there are two establishment voices on it now. Can feel like they're arguing minutae and missing the bigger picture for the public.

The Paddy Power Cheltenham antepost one started up again this week though, and gods, I could listen to Ruby and Rory Delargy talk forever. Wouldn't necessarily be backing their choices, but don't feel I have to. Feel I'm a little bit wiser just for the time in their company. This week Ruby saying the Challow/Ballymore stat should've been broken as he should've won on Denman, followed by Rory saying the stat would've remained true as the Challow was run at Cheltenham in January on good to soft that season was......absolutely my jam

Tick. They are a great listen. Very reasoned. Nice blend of knowledge, analysis, inside info, and betting angles. The host (can't recall his name sorry) is good too. Doesn't try and impose an opinion give the other two in the room. The pod has just turned Cheltenham focussed too.

      • I re-watched Cheltenham rewind from last year with Ruby and Barry analysing some of their best and worst rides at the festival, fascinating listening to them both pick a race apart and walk through the every thought and action either of them as a jockey are taking along the way.

Am sure plenty have watched it before but it’s worth a few spins

        • Racehour's usually the only one I watch out of the preview shows - the panel's often good & usually a fair amount of debate... that completely went out of the window last year though when we had our own Fat Jockey preview vids... they coming back for a resurrection this year of the 3 amigos?! Since joining have always personally found this Forum way way better than any show out there... knowledge on here is second to none.

Yes, was absolutely fantastic - I know it was a Paddy Power video, but one thing the sport doesn't do well is detaching content from betting now and then to highlight the sporting achievements. That piece really elevated my thoughts of jockeys and training

              • Hi fellow FJ's after some advice...
Going Gold cup day and will be staying in Birmingham on the Thurs. Anyone got any recommendations for a pub/sports bar in Birmingham city centre that will be showing the racing on big screen and decent beer.
Failing that we're coming down from the North so can stop off Leeds/Sheffield/Notts on route if anyone knows a good one. Cheers!

We went to an Irish near New Street Station last year. It was recommended by someone on here and it was brilliant.

I'll try and find out what it was called. Give me two minutes.

** it's called Hennessy's. We booked a table so I'd recommend doing the same. Think we are going there again this year for Thursday's racing.

Reminds me of a fast show character. His rambles are quite addictive but usually nonsense.

Liking Daryl these days, also a member on here but won't admit it

Only one I've probably not seen is rein it in, although I might have just not clocked the title.
There's some serious content competing for attention, it's no wonder this game's getting harder, looks like a fair few more are at it these days.

I think we should ban gambling for all under 30's as their brain is not yet fully developed to cope with it
And they're not financially sound enough either.

The Scottish guy, Mark Mackay, brings a refreshingly cynical and realistic approach which is good to watch. He's probably the best of them all.

I loved the videos with the microwave background.

                        • Off to the DRF for the first time and also planning to visit the Irish national stud to see me old pal Faugheen, just wondering oif anyone has been and done the "Irish racehorse experience" there and how they found it? Looks like a laugh if nothing else.

                          • I do enjoy watching Mark, straight to the point and often raises a point which makes you go "ermmmmm yeah, why the hell am I over complicating this!!"

                              • Anyone know when a horse would normally travel over from Ireland to run on the Saturday ?

Under normal circumstances would Energumene have travelled over this morning or would it be the day before ?
