  • Quick question - has anyone else noticed Betfair Sportsbook not offering boosts any more over the last few days? Wondering if it’s a general thing or a sign my Betfair account may be following my PP account (among others) to becoming a lot less useful!

Just back from a few days in York and doing my nuts on the flat - looking forward to getting stuck in to the jumps (not that I ever stopped), great to see how much action there is as the National hunt season really kicks off

Aye Viking, 365 is the culprit. Hopefully it’s some sort of algorithm at play and not individual account watching (which I seriously doubt as I’d have to have some winners first to cause them concern!)

As someone who’s burnt two Bet366 accounts, unfortunately it’s the first step towards restrictions.

Thanks JM, is the usual course of action they restrict you to so little it’s not worthwhile or can they completely close the a/c? If so I presume they still honour any open bets you may have. Honour and bookies in the same sentence - lol

I think they've moved away from them. Used to be like 5 per day, but now it's just one

Restrictions will be in the form of removal of concessions (free bets, multiples, cash out etc) and limits to stakes as well. I’ve never had an account completely closed but they’re limited to the point it makes them almost redundant.

Have you closed your accounts after all bars have run and settled?

                  Or

                  Just left them dormant?

They seem to want to keep your accounts open
                  - for casino games maybe,
                  - or maybe just to keep tabs on you, your WiFi, phone MAC etc, in case a family member using the same WiFi becomes interested in horse racing betting?

Apparently they can retain your data for 7 years. I was restricted by one bookmaker last year so I requested account deletion and erasure of my personal data. They closed the account but refused to erase my data because of 'record keeping obligations'. 7 years was the time period they told me, maybe it's different for different bookmakers but as you say, very difficult to get an account fully closed.

That info can go stale quickly though.

                      If you
                      ....moved house
                      ....changed phones
                      .....changed WiFi provider
                      .....debit card expired
                      ......changed email address
Their data would be stuck in a timewarp.

There's a limit in what they can keep 7 years anyway.

I'm.of a mind that one of the reasons they dont close you is they want to continue tracking the above.

I've closed down plenty this last year.
I don't want any connection to businesses that restrict you but continue their tracking of you.

I think information relating to Money Laundering is 5 years.
The 7 years is to do with transactional records related to any tax or debt issues.
But I'm pretty sure that the gambing commision state 5 years after the business relationship has ended.
However, for their own privacy rules most bookies opt for the 7 years.

                        This explains a lot.

I always assumed they restricted stakes rather than closed you down for two
reasons; to use the total number of ‘live’ in marketing stuff (365 do this is their adverts though how many of their 30 million customers can actually get a decent bet on is anyones guess), and secondly to avoid public criticism for closing accounts….

                              thanks for that link.

After much thought, I decided that for me, it makes no sense to keep restricted useless accounts open with betting companies that don’t want your custom, just retaining your data and information forever.

I wouldn’t trust them to keep it safe either.

So I diarised and closed all my restricted accounts after the last bets were settled.

Im happy with that decision, some wanted me to keep them open and gave me some bulls-hit about after a period of time they could life the restrictions if I have wasted that time on 50p Acca’s on sports I don’t want to bet on, like some sufferance or penance to be paid.

All my stored data apart from my name and DOB will be useless to them when I next move house, so not much lost there.

                              • Request for help: anyone know how to watch Irish race replays for free on a site not linked to a bookie (eg Sporting Life).
Abroad so can’t access bookie sites - unless anyone can tell me a way round it.
Any help would be much appreciated.
