    • Awful news regarding Young de bromhead, hope it’s not true. No age to go at all

      • Absolutely desperate news. How does anybody ever get their head around something like that. A cruel, cruel world sometimes.

        • Dire news, there aren't words available to sum up such a sudden, tragic loss. Hopefully over time Henry finds some small comfort in the huge amount of respect and love that exists out there for him. R.I.P. Jack.

            • Desperate news, not sure how you even come to deal with something like that, really are no words.

                • Truly awful. I have no idea how a family every get over a tragedy like this.
Luck is a dividend of sweat. The more I sweat, the luckier I get.

                    • Gents, quick question? are we not making new threads for the 2023 festival?

                      • What a thing to happen to HDB and family, Henry comes across as a top bloke and gentleman, and his son seemed a lovely boy. Sad, sad news.

There was a feeling the race threads went up too early last year so these will go up at some point once the season is in full flow, I think the consensus was that Christmas ish would suit best.
The early fancies thread is still the place for festival discussion, I guess in a few weeks there's a case for the 'novice hurdle/chase/championship threads' to reappear as they seemed to work well in past years.
It's Kev's call, and he's busy dismantling hot tubs these days....

                            • Last few visits to races have been pretty frustrating.
Although I generally like to get most of my bets down early I also like to react as the day unfolds.

However the internet availability is getting worse.
Cartmel I'll give a pass too as it's in the middle of fields.
But Cheltenham, York & Doncaster have all been like blackholes.

Does anyone have any solutions as this mardy twat will stop going if not.

Racecourses are not doing themselves any favours at the moment.

Unless you get a card only bar that takes cash in hand

                              York Ebor meeting.
                              Vernon

Our lass bought a round at a card only bar and handed over cash without realising.
She spotted Vernon scrumpling the money into his hand and casually pocketing it.

Sent her to the bar for the next round.

                              her words were....

"I know what you're up to"
"I'll have four pints of cider and this should do it " - Gave him a fiver.

                              Third round, same again.

                              Vernon said....

                              "Had any winners"

                              Our lass replied

                              "No, Not Yet"

Vernon said - "Good job you've got me then"

Everyone needs a Vernon from time to time.

                              TIP for all.

When paying for drinks at a card only bar, ask how much it is for cash ?
You never know when a Vernon is going to pop up.

                              • Update from Paul Nicholls on SSR from Newton Abbot this evening. General summary as follows:

                                - Stage Star. Had a wind op 6 weeks ago. Novice chasing, expected out around November. "Fences should be the best thing for him".
                                - Clan Des Obeaux. Definitely have an entry in Hennessy. Threeunderthrufive "an ideal horse for that" and not rated as high as he should be in the future.
                                - Bravemansgame. "This year the best he's looked", will have one run before the King George - likely to be Ascot.
                                - Topofthegame. Start cantering tomorrow 06/09, looks in good shape and just hope he stays like that. Horses like him are hard to get right, "it's a challenge".
