Was thinking about this the other day, so Gaillard Du Mesnil run in the BANC again if he doesn't win a chase this season and also how often if ever do novice chasers/hurdlers come back to go for the same race? Guessing because most will have won a race at some point that season to be seen as good enough to go for the festival races there won't be many that have the chance. Concertista winning the Mares Novice Hurdle at the second attempt is the only one I can think of off the top of my head.

Can they race in any novice race the following season? I know RWF ran in the Irish National and other Chases but never won, which was the example I was explaining to him running in NHC this year. Can a horse for example in Arkle, Turners, RSA this year race again in either of them races next year as long as it didn't win a chase this season? Does it happen often?

In case anyone else is waiting for theirs, I contacted Mark via the website and I have been sent a PDF of it while I wait for my full copy coming through.

Think the Turner's/Banc/Arkle are for first season Novices only.

I believe so, yes. Edwardstone was technically a second season novice chaser, as he ran in a Novice Handicap Chase at Doncaster in December 2020.

That sums it up. 'Second season novice' has no official status as a term but means exactly what it says, ie horse in its second season as a novice because it did not win in that category in its first season.

Sir Mark Todd repeatedly whips a horse with a branch to make it go into water and is allowed to resume training immediately after yesterday being given a four-month ban with two months suspended by the BHA.

The panel said the 8 weeks ban he'd already served was sufficient.

                        Really?

For context, the rider says she had not been advised of, nor had she consented to, the man touching/animating/hitting her horse with the branch. She had been...

                              • Looks like a bit of a penalty kick of a Grade 1 for Galopin Des Champ on Sunday. Does that mean he won’t go to Punchestown if he’s runs on Sunday or are they just picking up an easy Grade 1 on the way?
