For those who are already looking at 2023 prices I saw Galopin des Champs (Gold Cup has been priced up by 3 bookmakers.
I had in my mind that he’d be somewhere between 20/1 and 33/1, seems the best industry price available is 7/1.
Best of luck….
Galopin Des Champs Was priced up at 33-1 Ista , until he hosed up last week . Several of them have been trimmed ,
in the last couple of weeks . e.g - BonJovi - ch hdl was 20-1, now 12's i believe ..

Two bets I know I placed:
Feb 2020 Minella Indo to win the 2021 Gold Cup at 33/1
Feb 2021 Monkfish to win the 2021 RSA and 2022 Gold Cup 40/1
So whilst your GDC comparison may appear similar value they've clearly given him a severe haircut after a win in a beginners chase whereas the two above were available after the DRF where Monkfish hacked up.
Whatever way you look at it 7/1 for a championship race in 14 months on the strength of a single beginners chase romp is an appalling price, not just a bad price but clear differences in the prices that were available for previous novice chase hotpots at a similar time in their careers...
They could decide that a horse's mark can't be changed by the result of a race off level weights, which might encourage people to chance their arm."
Blueprint for NH chasing has been released.
Just listened to John Dance who owns Bravemansgame and he suggested the above.
Apologies if you're a member on here John or anyone on here knows you but this is one of the stupidest ideas I've seen.
Keep thinking though.
There would be more runners in graded races I'll give him that, but it's the next run that would worry me.
Maybe a maximum penalty (like 5lb) for a good run in a graded race would work better.
I've not read the full report but one of the ideas is to revert some graded races back to handicaps including the clarence house !
Like fucking Shishkin would run in that off top weight - FFS.
If Nicky can't find races at the minute then he's going to find it harder going forward.
Which may be a good thing.
Needs a lot more though.
Squeezing the top end won't solve the whole problem.
They still need to squeeze from the bottom up I reckon.

It's a simple one to solve for me. Just reduce the number of fixtures. Less options for horses to duck and dive and as a result produces more competition. Betting turnover is likely to increase as a result, imo.

Yeah, I posted in another thread, they need to reduce fixtures and close a few courses. Squeeze it at the bottom like all good governments do, exterminate the weak and non contributors.
Then you can tinker at the top end.
Obviously don't believe this for society in general as I'm a good liberal boy (at heart, never vote ) from a social perspective.
But business decisions need to be more ruthless on occasions otherwise you just get a long and painful death, or worse you become comatose. Whilst the Irish dance around us and sing all the same songs with their piccolo's and funny hats.
Without seeing the whole report and a proposed fixture list, it's difficult to judge it. Agree with both points above though. Far reduced fixture list would be the first port of call. Although it needs to be properly thought out. For example, I'm all for converting the Clarence House to a handicap, but if you leave the Desert Orchid and Game Spirit as they are, then it will just get ignored (from a grade 1 horse perspective).
I'd like to see the penalty structure for conditions races revamped. Eg. For a grade 2,let's say the Desert Orchid. Something along the lines of a starting weight of 10-6, 3lb penalty for every grade 3 win in the last 2 years, 7lb for every grade 2 win and 10lb for every grade 1 win, up to a maximum weight of 11-12. Half penalties for novice races maybe. Essentially creating a limited handicap and guiding grade 1 horses elsewhere towards the programme that they are intended to use.
Rather than receiving weight, Shishkin would have carried 11-9 (17lb penalty for 2xG1 and 2xG2 novice wins)
Greaneteen 11-12 (2xG1 + G2)
Sky Pirate 10-9 (G3)
Before Midnight 10-6
Seeing Shishkin give a stone and a beating to a 157 rated horse would have got me far more excited (and probably made the handicapper recalibrate Sky Pirate's mark) as well as encouraging more horses to take him on in receipt of the weight.
Does anybody know roughly how much a ticket for Champions Day at Ascot was/is ?
Is it more than / less than / equal to what Royal Ascot would be?
Got to help arrange a work trip and can't see ticket prices for October yet (not a surprise at all) but if anyone has been recently and could let me know roughly what it was that'd be great.
Thanks in advance!
Hi Kevloaf,
A recent joiner and must get around to introducing myself (fabulous site and great people) - but can help with this. A friend did an early group booking last year for ten tickets, found pdf with cost as below, so likely well below the Royal meet:
Cheers,

It's as simple as this for me too. A mere comparison of the number of fixtures in the UK to Ireland shows me why there is more competitive action on the other side of the Irish sea.
8 January and we've hardly had any cancellations due to weather. Certainly no loss of a high profile meeting, either across GB or Ireland. The rain over the last 3/4 weeks has now given us soft winter ground. Even where they have been inspections, these have tended to be more cautionary than there being a real threat of losing the meeting. The immediate forecast over the next week is for it to remain mild. Wonder if a cancellation free programme will impact on the Festival which now is only 9 weeks away from this Tuesday.
Something to keep an eye on with the Betfair hurdle upcoming is the incremental rating Irish horses are being given when they race in the UK. Historically, this has always averaged out around 2-3 pounds with a few notable outliers. However, it is increasingly common to see Irish horses being given a UK rating 8 pounds or more higher than their Irish racing. For example, Kinnegad Lad in the 3.00 at Ayr today has a UK rating of 107 compared to an Irish rating of 97. In the 1.00, Burnt Ash had a provisional rating of 98 versus her Irish mark of 90.
On the face of it, and if the Cheltenham ratings reflect this trend, this should make it more difficult for Irish horses to dominate the Cheltenham handicaps. That could well be the case but another consequence may be that more Irish horses than normal will get into the handicaps (at the expense of the UK horses); it wouldn't be a great surprise to see more Irish horses entered and for Irish horses to take up a bigger proportion of the ultimate fields.

Don’t underestimate the potential for the handicapper to selectively underestimate Irish horses to keep them out of races too.I can see this happening in the pertemps and the boodles for example.
The diaries these days in the members section are generally a fucking disgrace.
I'll not call out individual members but the aftertiming has become common place (I get that it's not always possible for those that have a life)
But it renders them untrustworthy IMO, so the adding up after the event and backslapping (which happens annually now) becomes tedious. IMO.
Diaries are being edited with bets added and taken away, and no comments/records made.
No running total of losses are being kept for many.
Some even show last years results on a race by race basis with no mention/record of losses occurred in the run up.
Some don't even include stakes so what's the fucking point in that ?
I kind of mentioned this last year, and it's got worse.
I'm not calling individual people out as I think that would be unfair and there are so many.
But some very notable individuals are 'guilty'.
I kind of don't care on a personal level other than it's irritating and the competitive element is long gone, if ti ever was there, as everyone's methods are different - and I've stopped looking at them most of the time,
But (and this is the important bit) there are people who are heavily influenced in the gambling world (vulnerable gamblers I'd call them) and it irritates me when things are misrepresented, deliberately or through lack of care.
I know for a fact that there are many "vulnerable's" who are members on here and those that aren't, who visit the site.
So misleading information can do damage whether it's by design or not.
This is just my opinion only, and you can obviously do what you want.
Thought it worth mentioning.
