  • One thing I won't miss is all these naff ads from the various bookmakers. You'd think they'll be the first to be binned similar to cigarette adverts were 20 - 30 or so years back. I'm surprised we still have them, to be honest.

    • I've not seen this picked up by the Racing Media (no shock there) but it appears Dan's had his fingers in some pies - not steak and kidney like his physique would suggest.

The story begins on a September afternoon at Southwell racecourse in Nottinghamshire five years ago. Sulamani The Late is having his third race. Tony Holt and I

      • …the more I read Elliott talking about Galvin, the more I think he won’t run in next years National - ‘he’ll be a National horse in time’.

        • Does anyone know when Paul Townend is back from injury?

With all the big guns about to come out soon, it will be interesting to see who is on the top horses.

You could have Appreciate it at Punchestown and Kilcruit at Cork on Sunday. Would Patrick be risking using up some of his limited rides on any of these, and could Rachel get a few of these rides over the usual crowd.

I hope Hayes doesn't get let loose with any, and Bryan, Danny and the O'Keefes do

Imminently I think WTL. Maybe as soon as this weekend.

He was meant to be back for Thursday but presumably put that on hold for the weekend.

As for your comments on Hayes, can't say i agree. He's a perfectly capable jockey now he's being used by half decent trainers.

              2017-18- 4%
              18-19- 5%
              19-20- 5%
              20-21 - 12%
              21-22- 15%

He's also ridden 207 times already this year, whereas the last 4 years before that he didn't reach over 270 rides, so even with Townend being out now, i reckon he's in for a record number of rides too.

He does have a better record with chasers. I'm not for a second comparing him to Townend or Cooper (for me the 2nd best on your list) but he's decent.

I hope people continue to have your view on him though, as he's often on a bigger priced runner, even for Willie, and it isn't justifiable.

He is no where near the standard of the top jockeys mentioned above that should be on the top horses.

Without throwing all the stats at you to prove it, he has been on 32 favourites this season and only won 10 of them. He shouldn't be anywhere near riding the likes of Willies horses, there are many far better riders over in Ireland than him

10 from 32, is that that bad?

Isn’t it something like roughly 30% of favs win? So he’s right there.

You can throw any stat you want at me, as the ones that count to me are the fact since he's ridden for better trainers his strike rate is 5%> 12/15%. As CAT says, not sure 10 from 32 is all that bad given some of them are for Emmett Mullins who lets be honest, ain't the straightest.

He's plenty good enough but as i said before, i'll be happy that people continue with the viewpoint you have as he's continually overpriced on outside rides especially in chases in Ireland. I also said in the above i am not saying for a second he's better than Townend/Cooper for example. Just that he's underappreciated by the wider public. WPM and EMs know more than me and you..

This isn't a Cheltenham comment by the way, it's just in general.

Almost want to have a war chest ready for those ill thought out price pushes designed to cripple people's cash out

                          • Weather forecast for Brisbane looks shocking days 1-4 of the first Ashes test. Bookies starting to cotton on but the draw still 12/5. Good for some roll ups perhaps.

Thanks EE. Just rolled up in doubles with Energumene (CC), Ahoy Senior (BNC) and Envoi Allen (R) all of whom I don’t have covered yet
