Hasn’t the schedule always been that way ?
I’ve been to several Eclipses and always first Saturday in July and I’m not sure Ascot has ever not been mid June.
Even Enable at her awesome best faced 7 challengers…
Probably has yes
Doesn't mean it can't be changed
Properly space out the prince of Wales, eclipse and juddmonte
there aren't many good horses about at the moment which exacerbates the small field
The Eclipse has been a Group 1 forever, and the Prince of Wales Stakes was upgraded from Group 2 to Group 1 in 2000.
They are too close together, as they are less than three weeks apart, but no doubt normal rules weren’t applied, to enable Royal Ascot to be given Group 1 status for another race at their meeting.
The key difference between them is that the POW is for 4yo and upwards, and the Eclipse is more inclusive as it’s for 3yo and upwards.
Interesting, I wasn't aware the Prince of Wales was a group 2.
I don't follow flat that closely but aren't the Guinneas trials all 2-3 weeks before Newmarket ?
I think the Dante has a similar gap before the Derby.
I saw Richard Hoilles asking the question about a July Derby a few days ago then answered the question on the Opening Show yesterday by saying that if the race was moved a number of horses will have proved to be non stayers and the Derby could end up having small fields.
Somebody far cleverer than me can work out the issues with the racing programme but it can't be a good look for UK racing when only four go to post in an historic 600k race when we're constantly hearing that prize money is big problem, after all we've debated the introduction of the Marsh chase in here for years and the impact it's had on the Arkle and 3m nov chase...
Has anyone else lost all cashout on ante post and normal bet with 365?
Yep, another one here.
On a related note, I can still get cashout on Betfair SB for older bets but ones ive made from about a few weeks ago onwards are not listed for cash out and never were. Is this a pretty typical experience?

Yes, the Prince of Wales is one of the more recent upgraded race.
Also the Kings Stand was Group 2 from 1988 to 2008, then upgraded to Grade 1.
The Diamond Jubilee was converted from the Grade 3 Cork and Orrery.
The Cork and Orrery was then upgraded in 1998 to Grade 2.
Then renamed and upgraded again to the Golden Jubilee at Grade 1.
Its the Royal Ascot upgrade of the Prince of Wales that has impacted the Coral Eclipse in particular.
The others had no competition around the same time, anyway.
I am also not keen on only 2&1/2 weeks between the Craven meeting and Newbury meeting with Guineas trials, and more happy when it’s a week longer.
I don’t tend to back many horses that have won at those trial days any more, partly because of the short time to the Guineas.
At least we aren’t tailing two Grade 1’s in two and a half weeks though, only the Grade 3 preps followed by a Grade 1.

A little blast from the far too recent past..Our old pal Elegantly Tasted has been posting away under the guise of ‘Captain Robbo’ I see on TheRacingForum.
Banging on about Croatia as certain euros champions and then a thread about how Ukraine will destroy England and be declared the greatest team in Europe. His posting style is so distinctive that I instantly recognised it as our very own ET.

My cash out has disappeared for minella indo, monkfish and a plus tard in the gold cup but is still there for gaillard du mesnil in the old rsa and a double running onto honeysuckle in the champion hurdle. Yesterday all had disappeared.
