Anyone got any strong views on what Rachel Blackmore will ride in the National? Minella Times?
Just thinking it’s the obvious bet now, will shorten massively on the day
I'd have thought she's almost certain to ride Minella Times if he's on the boat.

Good economical jumper and looks a thorough stayer.

Ran the perfect Grand National race at Leopaardstown last time - just lobbed along off the pace and then crept into contention.

Quite an impressive run - as was his second place in the PP at Christmas. But I just wonder if he's one of those horses who is a bit too one paced to win very often.

Even so, he has a great weight and must have a big chance of hitting the frame in my opinion.

Rachel's record on him is 1122.

Trouble is the price has already collapsed. He was 45-1 a month ago.

But he could end up being one of only two Henry saddles in the race - maybe even his sole representative.

Plan of Attack is unlikely to make the cut at number 77, I'd have thought.

Henry says Chris's Dream needs time between his races - well, he's not going to get it if he turns up at Aintree after the Ryanair.

And that leaves Balco Des Flos who also has a decent weight but Rachel has ridden him 10 times and failed to win any of them.

So there must be every chance Rachel rides Minella Times and he goes off single figures - maybe second favourite.

And that would be rank bad value in my book.

So certainly worth taking Paddy's 16-1 nrnb if you like him, I'd have thought.

          • What does everyone use to track their bets? I am using a basic Google Sheet I made but it's really basic. I don't have excel so I use google sheets. I'm a noob with spreadsheets also. Can anyone point me to a better solution?

I use google sheets as it's better to update on the move rather than having a static excel (though move it to excel when done to crank the graphs). I have a couple of vlookups so I can just write the race name and it autofills some other details like what day, it being a multiple etc and then build some pivot charts that help me autotrack P/L by day of fest and by race, as well as looking at potential returns

                • I mentioned on here early this season about horses at Cheltenham by the sire Getaway and how poorly they seem to do.
                  2/57 3.5% S/R -?33 BFSLP -W&P 11/57 19% S/R
I thought I would check out how the getaway kids got on at this years fez.
Big breakaway done best of the getaways this year finishing tamely behind monkfish to be beaten 17.5 lengths. Other getaways included getaway gorgeous (finished 23rd) musical slave (finished 9th) Barbados Bucks (finished 11th) Sporting John (fell) Sneaky getaway (finished 23rd)
current bumper fav 2022 (Classic Getaway) is just 12/1 one year out. He has the sexy Cheveley park profile and trained by Willie but he is the son of Getaway and I thought it was worth reflagging up this stat that suggests they either don’t like the hill and undulations or maybe they are just a bit soft.

                  • I can't quite put my finger on why but Journey With Me is such a good name for a racehorse.

He cost 5k as well at the 2019 Derby Sale - the joint cheapest horse to sell from the entire catalogue. I suspect Michael Murphy made an absolute killing on him when selling on to Robcour.

Wow I didn't know that - would have been a good horse to begin the Fat Jockey Racing Syndicate with!

                        • The Off The Fence show that has Barry Geraghty and Tony Keenan both suggested because Envoi Allen was so keen that they could see him dropping back and going for the Champion Chase. Barry mentioned that HDB horses tend to be keen whereas Gordon's are more relaxed. I think that is the first time we've seen him be keen. What does everyone think of this?

I'm not sold on that as there has also been quotes from allahos trainer about trying the champion chase and there is surely no way Cheveley would want both there.

the narrative before this one race with envoi was praising his professionalism and approach to jumping so i think a lot of this is looking only at his last race and making a broader judgement counter to everything we've thought before.

Yeah, it something I had touched on in the past on here too. I just don't like them at the festival, and will avoid, most probably until some star by Getaway comes on the scene I guess it only takes one horse to turn the stats around.

                              • I think the whole envoi allen reaction by a lot of people is a bit over the top. Firstly the hype surrounding him pre festival as the second coming was too much and now it seems the overreaction has gone the other way where nobody now thinks he’s a gold cup horse and some think Ryanair or champion chase should be his target all on the back of one fall after four fences! People talk about him like he’s turned into a crazy version of goshen because he got wound up before the marsh.
I know the fact that hdb already has two gold cup horses for next season muddies the water a bit but let’s just see how he progresses at Punchestown and early next season first. I’d still like to see him campaigned as a gold cup horse and if he doesn’t stay then drop him back in trip.
