  • Judging by most of the comments on Twitter you'd be forgiven for thinking Gordon's pulled out a Glock 18 and shot the horse at point blank range. It's appallingly bad taste from a dickhead who deserves every ounce of public judgement, but that's all it is, IMO.

Still maintain that drugging a horse that's alive is worse, much much worse in fact, than taking a sick photo like that. It's weird the way this has caused so much more outrage than that. It's a bit like that advert on the telly of those poor mistreated Donkey's - chokes me up way more than any advert about charities for people. It shouldn't, but it does.

That's what I'm thinking. Surely, for the sake of his owners, he ensures that any ban is delayed at least until after Chelts and withdraws from public appearance.

Madness, how much this has blown up.

Sitting on an already dead horse, as opposed to a horse losing it's life on a racetrack having to carry a jockey around with likely additional weight on top of that also. Where's the outcry then? We ignore it until the animal activists turn up! We don't blame the trainer or jockey then, do we? A lot of horse racing connected people choosing to ignore this side of it, and just going for Gordon because of one picture, where none of us were present.

This sport is going one way.

          • Anybody close to this sport knows how precarious its future has been for a number of years. I have read many posts on here where people are trying to be rational, applying logic, comparing this to other misdemeanours.

Trying to stack rank the severity of the offence against ones committed by others, highlighting the investigation and appeals process and so on and so on. None of this matters. Racing has been too insular for far too long, thinking it’s everybody else that has the problem not us and all these animal welfare people and all these anti gambling people, all these everyday joes that think it’s cruel or barbaric or bent or whatever are just ignorant and need educating. This level of arrogance and naivety is mind blowing.

My daughter just called me and said wtf dad. This is what just happened.

One of racing’s leading most talented, revered and respected professionals has given all its enemies all the ammunition it needs to fuck us over. This is about emotion, this is about losing hearts and minds in a heartbeat that so many have tried so hard to win over.

The crime here is not sitting on a dead horse (though what civilised human being possibly thinks that is ok) but is giving all the haters, the cynics, the nay sayers the loaded gun with which to shoot us. Corporate suicide of the greatest order. If folks think the punishment should be a literal examination of the facts without factoring in the massive political and environmental factors then I fear they are missing the broader picture.

the world already thinks the sport is corrupt, the world thinks it is cruel and the world thinks it is getting innocent people into financial difficulty. Gordon Elliott knows this and his crime is that he has stuck two fingers up to the world and shouted we do what we fucking want. Now of course he hasn’t done this with intent but nevertheless it is what he has done and that for me is the crime that has been committed here and I reckon the world cannot believe the gift it has just been given.

Most people on her have been pretty objective about it whilst there’s varying opinion, but a lot of the people on other media baying for his blood would say the supermarket if they were asked where they thought their meat comes from.

Fact is they’re not pets, racing is actually classed as agriculture, and as another poster has touched on there’s absolutely nothing dignified about having to move a big animal like that when it’s dead. I once gave a farmer a hand to move a bull that had died in a particularly awkward spot, while on one hand it wasn’t a very nice thing to see I’d be lying if I said there were moments we couldn’t do anything else but laugh at the situation. I suppose like anything you become a bit immune to the shock value of it when you’ve worked in that environment for a long time or grown up around that kind of thing.

Pictures speak a thousand words. If he's willing to get photographed doing this what else is he up to will be the general publics thought process. Rightly or wrongly. The general pilublic haven't got time or care enough to read about Charles B

I've mentioned the Charles Burns case to a few friends and they barely lift their head. This picture has their attention though and will generate all the clicks the useless journalist who know nothing about the sport desire. He's put it on a plate for them 2 weeks before the biggest week of the year.

The video and screenshots last week of his alleged jack the lad behaviour and now this. I hope there is no more to come. Someone is out to get him and they are doing a very good job. His reputation is rightly in the gutter and he could potentially lose his best horses.

                          • ....Chapman on ATR saying the BHA have it in their powers to ban Elliott horses from the Festival if the Irish authorities don’t immediately suspend him.

I suspect calls for an immediate suspension will gather pace and there has to be a genuine chance we will not see Elliott runners at the Festival. With millions already wagered and entries made, it seems wrong that punters and owners should be caught up in any sanctions but it’s a possibility.

The logistics for ante-post markets is unimaginable.
