So true. Still haunts me that decision. Felt for the horse too.

    • Gaelic Warrior for the King George if Willie does send one?

Il Est Francais a clear favourite though IMO ... not that it's worth backing this far out

      • ….I imagine Mullins would like to secure the UK trainers Championship again this season. Seemed to throw resources at it last season when he had a chance, maybe a bit more planning to it this time around.

GW tailor made for a Tingle Creek, Clarence House set of 2m forays over here I'd say, with El Fabiolo taking the left handed races on home soil before they are split at the festival.

Il Etait Temps is the one I can see coming over here for the prize money

          • As much as I like my stats, I always think that they need some perspective. In 10 years, the number of boxes at Closutton has increased by about 50% and this is bound to affect 10 year stats. When Willie has horses turning up at Newton Abbot and Bangor, it doesn't seem likely that he will shy away from G1s at other UK tracks as long as he has enough suitable jockeys available.

            • King George usually a great looking race but has a few slightly questionable looking winners very recently imo. And a couple who would maybe be better known over shorter trips. It's also rarely run on bad ground. So an early slightly left field shout for consideration - Banbridge. 33s best price with PP but not in the market on BEX unfortunately.

I've actually already backed Fastorslow for the race. Who I think it should suit. The french horse and any big Mullins runners targeting it won't be welcome

The elephant in the room is the ground with Banbridge. I think he could run well in a KG but the chances of him having good ground in December I'd say are slim and JO'B won't run him in it again after last year. I've got him on the list for the Ryanair but in brackets next to his name it says (ignore until the week before)

                • I do think that Willie will send one or two over for the KG but probably not one of his real top notchers.

Would love to see Gaelic over for the Tingle Creek. The race looks made for him doesn't it. He'd absolutely bolt up.

                    • Yes interesting thoughts regarding GW
Quite tempted by a bit of a swing at Il Est Francais - I suppose I haven't got a price in my head that I thought he'd be.

Also not looked in to his record first time out to gauge whether I'd want to back him before that

I wonder how long it'll be before a satellite UK operation is set up...

I've not checked this but I think you'd be surprised at how often the word 'good' has been in the description at Kempton on boxing day over the last 20 years... Rarely gets that testing at Kempton anyway or at least there's very few King George's in my memory that have been.

The ground is a concern with most antepost bets. Turns up on the day on decent ground and he's probably not a 33/1 shot though I guess.

Seeing him have runners in nothing races at Bangor/Fontwell/Uttoxeter etc is an indication to me he's going try train a winner at every UK / Irish Track.

He'd definitely be my choice for the race as well Kev. He absolutely devoured the fences in the Kato Star and the track really suits his style of running. Can see him going off pretty short.

                              • Re Banbridge....am I barking up the wrong tree or did they not say he needs to go LH as well as requiring faster conditions?? IMO he's one of the worst horses to back AP as there's too many 'ifs ' with him. He's definitely an on the day bet for any race he potentially targets.
