    • Nice to see Giants Table get a mention.

I’ve had him in my tracker since seeing him at the sales after racing in 2019 along with Soviet Pimpernel and My Whirlwind
Will wait for him to get priced up and follow him all the way

      • GORDON ELLIOTT's Stable Tour us in tomorrow's Racing Post.

It goes through the usual massive amount of horses.

Hopefully its the start of a week with a full whack of horses mentioned in Willie, Nicky H, Henry, Joseph, Paul Nicholls stable tours.

Have they stated Mullins is this week Saxon? Going on past years his is always a fair bit behind the others, usually a couple of weeks into November

                • Looking through the Gordon Elliott Stable Tour, I was interested in those where a specific Festival race was mentioned, either strongly, or in passing, as a possible target.

The two that interested me the most (as the rest were as I expected) were the first mentions that I had heard for a couple of the Novice Hurdlers for specific Festival Novice Hurdles.

                  Fantasio D’Alene - Albert Bartlett (66/1 B365 with Cashout)
                  Farouk D’Alene - Ballymore (33/1 B365 with Cashout).

The Novice Hurdle division is of course way off us knowing anything concrete about ability to hurdle, distances etc, so I wouldn’t be backing without having a Cashout fallback, at all.

The best we know about these two is they are 5 year-olds, trained by Gordon for Giggy’s they both ran in decent bumpers:-

Fantasio needs a trip and is related to staying chaser Triolo D’Alene (winner of a Hennessy Chase and Topham Chase for Nicky H),

Farouk was one of the best bumpers (but missed the Festival Bumper as he is a Giggy horse)

both are big prices in the markets but have a chance, and now GE has mentioned specific races against their names.

As with all these novices the first hurdles run could blow Grade 1 hopes for the season to smithereens, but I like Farouk D, and it’s good to see a Festival race mentioned in his write-up, and Fantasio D has been competitive twice each with Uhtred and Dewcup over an inadequate 2M (before a Feb-March form tail-off), so the idea of the Bartlett makes sense.

These are the two I am pondering.

                  • That’s some ew double Saxon.

I’m a Farouk fan and, whilst what you say above is right (one race could smash the G1 hopes into smithereens), I can’t help but get excited about the mentioning of the Ballymore. Firstly it’s where most of my money is down but secondly Gordon appears to put his best long term projects down this route. May be reading too much into the above this time but I’ll cling to that for the moment at least.

“Over the next five weeks, taking us through to the build-up to Newbury's Ladbrokes Trophy meeting, we'll bring you key updates, horses to follow and new names for your tracker from the biggest trainers in the game, including further eight-page pullouts on Nicky Henderson, Paul Nicholls, Willie Mullins and Colin Tizzard.“ - I assume will be something like one a week for the bigger stables.

This week is scheduled to be:
                      Tues - Harry Whittington
                      Weds - Alan King
                      Thurs - Evan Williams

                      • Stable tours can contain inconsistencies (see Column Of Fire) but also the slightly misleading language. I’ve pasted some quotes about Farouk D’alene below from stable tours and one publication. Whilst I’d never expect a trainer to give every horses exact targets, Farouk D’alene brings about some confusion. If you take out the Ballymore being mentioned in the latest RP tour, which race would you have taken a stab at based on the other three comments? It’s rare that the Ballymore is considered a ‘staying novice hurdle’ and a ‘galloper’ would not always be the type of horse you’d want for the race either. I first mentioned the horses back in March for the Ballymore but then recently began to consider the Albert Bartlett after the initial stable tour. I will now have to see what entries he gets but then I’m running the risk of losing prices

He's hardly a dark horse having won both his start in bumpers for us but he mightn't be quite as high profile as some of our other horses. Since he first came to us I've loved him and I really like the way he goes about things. He was always going to be at his best when he was sent jumping so it was nice to see him win two bumpers and I really liked his second win at Naas where he beat a very good horse of Joseph O'Brien's. He's going to be a nice type for some good staying novice hurdles.

Farouk d’alene is another who I won on for Gigginstown, winning bumpers in Down Royal and Naas. He was very impressive at Christmas, but this horse is crying out for a jump, so the fact that he was able to win two bumpers speaks volumes. He was still green the last day in Naas, but he showed a very good attitude, and will be a lovely horse going forward. A good galloper, he will improve considerably for a hurdle and a trip.

He won two bumpers for us and is a tough horse who jumps and gallops well. He could be a real good staying novice hurdler. The Ballymore could be the race for him. He’s laid-back at home but he’s a fair galloper and you’d have to love what he did both days for us.

The First two would definitely suggest the Albert Bartlett. Could be that Gordon mixed up the name of the race, Ballymore instead of Bartlett, as "good staying novice hurdler" sounds more like a Bartlett contender.

                          • Staying Novice is vague, it could mean 2M5F and 3M.

The point I was looking at was to cut out vague comments over the 8-page pullout, like:-

Were looking forward to seeing him run over hurdles, or
He's going to be a staying type

.....and instead to focus purely on named race planning.

There isn't nearly as much named race planning, as there is vague statements, so its easier to spot and examine the potential of.

If I'd backed Farouk D'Alene for the Bartlett, I would be looking at adding the Ballymore now, given the trainers comments in the largest stable tour done each year, and after more time to assess the horses potential since any earlier comments were made.

GE also mentioned the Bartlett for Fantasio D'Alene for the same owner, so it looks at present, like he has sorted those 2 Giggy horses into 2M5F and 3M at present......until events unfold or unravel, of course.

                            • The Gigginstown lot will sort themselves out trip wise over the next few months as they appear out, to my eye Farouk’s racing style in bumpers would lend itself more to suitable to the AB, but then again if he was ridden from the front in the Ballymore he could be very effective so I’ve just covered both to be safe!

At big prices for both thats a decent play.
