Hello Fat Jockeys,

We're looking to upgrade the 'hosting CPU' so I've set up a crowdfunding project.

I would love it if you could donate using the link below to access my project page. Any contribution large or small will be hugely appreciated. Thank you.

Cheltenham is 51 days away (come on baby!!!) and we will be in lockdown till at least the middle of February - that's 30 days before Cheltenham.

The easing of restrictions will be exactly that, an easing. They will start at tier 4 and then move through the tiers. We know it takes 3-4 weeks between tiers for them to monitor, which means there is zero chance we enter tier 2 before Cheltenham, and I am very specifically using the word zero. It's over. There is legitimate talk of children being off school until Easter, so the notion we'd go from a national lockdown in mid feb to spectators at racecourse 30 days later just doesn't make any sense on any level, even more so when you consider the level of shit Cheltenham got last year.

I have been Mr Negativity on this thread (Mr Realism I prefer), but I think we should try and focus on what positives are left, and I'm afraid that's not going to be spectators at Cheltenham. I think we should try and be positive, in the right places!

We should start a 'Cheltenham Behind Closed Doors!' thread where all the people who would have attended discuss their plans and strategy for watching it at home?

No joke, I think this would be a good idea. It sucks not being there, but in the context of the hardships being faced across the nation, it's not so bad. Loads of positives I can think of:

    The festival has gone ahead!
    The Irish are coming over!
I can sit on my arse in comfort all day!
I'll have other lager options and cats piss Carling!
I wont have to queue 25 minutes for a pint of Guinness!
I can watch race replays and enjoy the coverage!
I can bet in play which I could never do before!
I'll save whatever I normally spend on each day!
I wont have to pay 5.05p for a Guiness (forever remain a mystery that price)!

Come on, there must be more...............

There wont be a 20min queue for a piss

Watch porn at the same time ?

Or even better, get your best male or female friend to wear just riding boots and an anal butt plug complete with a horse's tail, and serve you drinks and snacks all day.

It would be a female for me.
Not that it matters either way (for me it does as it's my preference)
You know what I'm trying to say.
In fact if they're just serving drinks then I don't care.

        • I think we should do what the kids do, and organise an illegal Chletenham Festival rave. Throw a farmer a couple of grand, and have massive screen in a barn in the middle of nowhere.

?800 fine each when we're caught. Reduced to ?400 if we pay early. Then get paid ?500 by the Government to stay at home becuase we've all got Covid. For some of us it might be the only profit we make!
Luck is a dividend of sweat. The more I sweat, the luckier I get.

            • I’m hoping I we can travel, so I can go to mates house where a few of us will watch racing together.

              • Be nice if we are allowed back into the pubs as we have one here where Mr Landlord (who's a good friend) has 3 large screens and has Racing UK on in the bar

That sounds like a lovely alternative Somer. Hope it comes true

                  • Hi Charlie,

The ?5.05 price is probably so the bar tender has to give you change.
Less chance for them to just pocket the fiver & move onto the next customer.

Same reason everything in the shops used to be ?1.99 etc.

At least that’s what my old man told me years ago when I asked.

Probably be ?6 next time you get there as only card payments accepted!

                    • Istabraq schools not going back until 8th March at least surely finishes off any hope you had of a small attendance?

Come to think of it, there are usually quite a few scousers working the Arkle bar so attempts to stop the thieving now makes perfect sense, thank you

Makes you look a bit of a Cunt saying that.

It would seem so, I'll await confirmation on the RP website in due course.
All hope now moves to pubs being open...

                              • Pubs won’t open before schools so the window to have them open is pretty skinny
