  • They really should not have taken Members money and sat on it since August/September, then preferred Hospitality ahead of them - that is really poor practice.

As a member I expect to go in a ballot before they sell anything to the general public. It's a disgrace.
If that's correct. Then I'm not as comfortable with that.
      It doesn't seem right.
If they did this with football season ticket holders, especially at smaller clubs, they'd burn the stadiums down.

Although, as a non-member, I will be booking hospitality for trials day in January

      • I've had half a day to decide what to do.

At the moment there's not a lot of point looking for alternative places to stay, as:

        * I dont know if I will be permitted to attend (ballots, restrictions etc)
        * Most folk (like me) roll-over their bookings from one year to the next, so their is normally scant choice.

As the Festival draws near, if (for example) all Annual Members can go, but not other ticket holders, then - maybe - a lot of accommodation will come back available so I can jump into a place to stay then.

Thats my current way of thinking.

If its on and I can attend - then the worse case scenario is driving there and back each day, which as a one off isn't a terrible idea, particularly if there's less than 10,000 people on course, and significantly less traffic.

The budget hotels like Premier Inn & Travelodge aren't all fully booked, and are cheaper than normal, and you can cancel or move the dates on those, if you want. THink festival week is still expensive though.

I've got 2 nights booked in travelodge for trials day. Bout ?80 all in.

I think for the festival, you may be right, and it would be best to secure your tickets first then book accomodation, as they'll be fighting for it nearer the day.

Totally serious Roger. I have a call into the management team that they don't seem to want to respond to.

Where did you see that hospitality will be on sale to the general public Spectre? I can't see anything regarding that?

                        • No they omitted to mention that bit! A friend called the office and they confirmed that it was the case. I have a call into the racecourse management, but as yet nobody has responded. Given the nature of the message I left, I would have expected someone senior on the phone calling back within a few minutes.

                            Crazy isn’t it.

I stay for the festival every year in what is a holiday inn by name but it’s basically a posher version of that. Has a very nice restaurant, a sports bar, a spa, a swimming pool and a fishing lake for example.

Only downside is it’s in Bristol so requires a half hour train from the racecourse after each days racing. Main positive though, asides from it being very nice, is that you can book after the previous years festival for a cheap price, and then pay when you arrive with free cancellation any time. Also has quite a few people in there like me who go to the racing each day so they’re used to the racing crowd in the hotel.

                              That's a great idea.

I did gave family in Birmingham, but they've moved so the plan to train on from their place is off too.
