  • As long as Irish horses can go over, I think I’m happy enough this season. Regardless of the British policy on spectators, I couldn’t realistically see our government allowing 1000s of us travelling over if things in Britain aren't much improved. I don’t care about watching from home as long as we get a proper festival. We were very lucky last year

also, FWIW, I’d be of the opinion that any issues with Irish horses travelling over would come from the Irish government as it did at Christmas, not the British. Even if all the jockeys, trainers, yard staff etc had to isolate for 2 weeks on return, I’m sure they would.

    • There wont be any members there this year, given what has happened with the virus over the last two or three weeks.

Money back, or rollover to next season, and holding a metal badge for a souvenir.

It will feel different to watch at home after so many years travelling down to Cheltenham for the week, but it will still be great fun, and much cheaper.

Money saved for next season, instead.

I'm still holding out some hope SW but if your fears are proved correct, and the laws allow, we will still be heading down to Chipping Campden for the week and will watch in one of the many lovely pubs followed by a feed in one of the many lovely restaurants, and I don't think we will be alone...

My gut feeling is we will all be in Tier 4 - "Stay at Home" when the Fez is on, with Hotels and B&Bs shut except for essential workers near to hospitals & Pubs/Restaurants shut etc.

This new morphing of the virus is spreading too fast, and putting more into hozzie, to be more confident at the moment.

            • 10 weeks tomorrow the festival starts, things certainly aren't improving so we could be struggling to even watch in the pub, really hope I'm wrong though.

Agree with this unfortunately Saxon. IMO I think there's a fair chance we'll be in a national lockdown until the 1st April, which would write off pubs etc

                • Scotland to enter 'full lockdown' from Midnight, won't be long until we follow suit. The good news is, there is 10 weeks for things to get better...

Yep, I don't doubt the challenges but as has been discussed in here over the weeks/months the vaccination programme will be very advanced (we hope) by March and with upcoming ramping of restrictions there should be a drop in infection rate, it might take a few weeks before this is realised but I'm hopeful we'll be in a better place by mid/late Feb which gives us a shot at Cheltenham even if it's a bigger price now that it was in the Autumn...

                      • Behind closed borders. 10 weeks, its been 10 months of hell if you or your family have been directly affected by this killer virus as I have. We are in trouble if anyone needs to realise it.
I think that it will be worse by March and that there could be total lockdown.
The vaccine(s) are not a silverbullet and cureall . It could be nothing but shopping trips forget spectator sports.
                        But I hope not so.
If Cheltenham proceeds then only English not even GB runners could be present. IMO .

Keep going and we’ll near my hypothetical example of horses only from Gloucestershire, hoping a few others at that point might be onboard with hounding the bookies to void all bets on those outside the county

                            • Something to look for as a positive will be if Champions League/Europa games go ahead in February time. If those involved are allowed to travel between countries, then that will put us in good stead that those involved within horse racing will also be able to travel a month later.
