If that ends up being the case, the approx £100 will be refunded (incl New Years Day), so the membership cost would be approx what buying 4 day members tickets for the Festival would cost anyway - plus that would include racing on Trials Day, and April/May if any of that is of interest.
It might even be a better experience, no hassle getting a drink or a place in the stand.
I've just been on holiday and the airport experience is much better as there's nobody there

Very true, but I'm sure they'll find 20 random people off the street who have never poured a pint before... At the November meet last year, a bloke next to me ordered a Guinness and black (only ever acceptable as a hangover cure?) and was rewarded with a pint of Guinness and half a pint of neat blackcurrant

I went to Ascot once for the meeting in late August.
And the Polish kid behind the bar was selling Pimms in Pint glasses for £4-50 a pop.
That was a fun afternoon.
Don't even like Pimms but took advantage of the generous servings, ended up playing Pool in a Bar near waterloo station with Brian Belo from Big Brother.
He was shit.

I'll make a note to never drink pints of Pimm's!
