I’ve caught up Lobos, apologies, thought you were meaning Laurina

I’m not sure, think Sullivan likes to have his say on targets but I suppose at the same time will want to mind her welfare of course.

She did look really good on chase debut, I get it was MI’s wrong trip but can’t take anything away from the performance. If she’s overcome some issues and the fact the season was cut short means they couldn’t run her, might do her the world of good.

Definitely another I’ll hover over the price for the mares chase on her reappearance unless stable tours are more informative ie chase or hurdles.

    • I think shes a great price for the mares chase, she went off joint favourite for the scilly isles if im not mistaken? Although she wernt up to it she did look good on chase debut if they can get her right she has bundles of talent well worth a go

        Especially with cash out Ray.

I’ll wait for an update on her well being first or an entry then the cash out option is a no brainer. She hoses up, she halves in price, she bombs cash out with minimal loss.

          • *I've also put this post in the trainer targets section - didn't know which was best fit.

I don't know if anybody/everybody has seen today's Guardian interview with Paul Nicholls which mentions several of his stable stars.

Interesting to see Laurina's had a wind op because Nicholls believes it may stop her bleeding.

And according to the article it seems he may start her off over fences - the Christy 1965 Chase at Ascot - rather than revert to hurdles.

To me, that makes her a risk worth taking in the Mares Chase at 33-1.

Just had a speculative 1-point each way with cash out option and see how things play out.

Watched a re-run of her Chase debut victory over Minella Indo at Down Royal - and if she can get back to that level she'd have a big chance.

I've still got her backed at 33/1 for the Mares Chase - haven't cashed it out yet and unlikely to before seeing her run there.

Let's hope Nicholls can get the very best out of her. Not many trainers will have the talent or belief they can improve one FROM Willie, but I bet Paul Nicholls is absolutely relishing that challenge to prove just how good he is.

He might not care at all, but I like to think he does

Yep, I imagine he will be relishing the challenge. Get her winning at the top table again and he'll get plenty more sent his way. Without Benie/ Honey /PTKO in Mares Chase she'd be the fav surely if PN can get her back to her first chase form.

                • PTKO here at 10's seems a big price, would think this is where she will turn up next year. With cash out at 10's seems a no brainer to get in the books
Don't think she will be CC standard and this is where she will turn up.

If she is not up to CC standard then yes, the Mares Chase fits. I'm hoping she is up to standard though !

                    • When I watched the Arkle live I didn't think it was up to much but the more I watch it back the more I think she may be good enough to step up into a champion chase contender. She travelled really well, jumped brilliantly and was always holding Fakir D'oudaries. Time will tell but I would like to think she will progress.

How high is the CC standard likely to be this season? Apart from brittle CPS and an old Altior the bar isn’t exactly sky high in this division at the moment!

The arkle winner shouldn't be dropping down to a grade2, is she shows any ability at all this season its got to be CC

                          • I like Happy Diva, she has great course form and tough as old boots.
                            20s is available.

                              Nooooo.

                              Poor price.

                              Henry doesn't shirk a challenge.
The owners don't shirk a challenge.

Also agree the QMCC 'standard' consists of (at absolute best) 3 horses, Altior (old), Chacun Pour Soi (fragile) and Defi Du Seuil (flopped in this race and likely to run over further)....

If the Arkle winner isn't a contender for the QMCC, we're in a spot of bother.

Connections plus Arkle winner = QMCC runner.

                              Hopefully

The problem with her as an ante post pick, is there is a really low chance she goes off short. She's a handicapper, that's established, and whilst really likeable, if she's fav for a Grade 2 Mares Chase at the festival, they've done it completely wrong.

She's the kind of horse that should be 20/1 on the day and we can all be clever and put her up..... but this early I feel it's inevitable that she's not going to be a good value ante post bet.

Almost as inevitable as us beating not606 again *doffs cap to you Sir*
