  • Regarding Benie, If a horse can jump a fence and she can, I can't see any problem with her not having jumped a fence for 3 years.

    • Gamechanger Alert !!!!!!

Last season’s Arkle winner Put The Kettle One may run in the inaugural mares’ chase – but will also have an entry in the Queen Mother Champion Chase.

She won at Cheltenham in November before finishing third to Chacun Pour Soi last time out.

“Put The Kettle On didn’t get an entry at Leopardstown and is aiming for the spring as well,” said De Bromhead.

“We’ll probably enter her in the Mrs Paddy Power Mares Chase (over two and a half miles) at Cheltenham, as well as the Champion Chase.

“You could argue her form is much better over two miles, but I think we should definitely have her entered in it (the mares’ chase).”

          • I've backed her NRNB though, 6/1 is fair enough with that concession, I assumed she'd be shorter.

She's 1 pt bigger NRNB than Dame De Compagnie.

I cannot get my head around that.

An Arkle winner as a novice.

A Grade 2 winner (Schloer) and G1 placed at Christmas (beaten 8L) - bigger priced than Dame De Compagnie, who has 1 run over fences, in a 2 runner race.

Absolutely no chance they're priced correctly IMO.

              Completely agree. She'd wallop DDC.

              • PTKO would have carry a 5lb penalty for her Arkle win and therefore be giving 5lbs to BDD if they both went this route.

Is this a recent quote from HDB about PTKO, as I'm pretty sure this isn't new news? If HDB really is playing mind games what is he trying to achieve by emphasising this now. It could be that he wants to entice WM to run BDD here rather than take on Honeysuckle at level weights in the Mares Hurdle or the exact opposite, suggesting that PTKO is good enough to win this with a penalty whoever turns up.

Or probably much more likely, there are no mind games at work herel and HDB is just reminding us that PTKO will be entered in both.

Fascinating stuff, when will we know for sure. Final decs for the Mares Hurdle I presume re BDD and Final Decs for the QMCC for PTKO.

I read it that the Champion Chase is still favoured, and assumed that they would always have kept her in the mares chase as well.

Lobos thinking it's worthy of being a Gamechanger is misleading IMO.

Although the defeat last time to Chacun, and him doing similar at the weekend and turning up to Cheltenham, is and was always going to be a factor in their eventual decision.

                  Gamechanger - NO
                  Normal trainer behaviour - YES

Did anyone really believe the Arkle winner was going to target a restricted G2 race ?

                    • Can you imagine the current Arkle champion going to a Grade 2 chase instead of the Champion Chase the following season. If that happened and she were mine I'd move her from the stable before the Festival. Not even god himself could convince me that's a good idea.

A change back to the front running tactics from last season wouldn't go amiss either. Her biggest asset is being able to jump and grind, and the others have to get past her when she's in her own rythmn. This season they've been riding everyone else's race.

                      • You could both say the same about BDD, a multiple Grade 1 winner.
And Colreevy, to a lesser extent.

Connections of PTKO look very much like Fun owners who'd probably get a thrill out of either race. But maybe more so in one they could realistically win.

I think they'll have a go at the Queen Mother though myself.
Just cos they have the Cheltenham form in the back pocket to call upon to help make up for the early season defeat (in their minds in any case)

Id say the opposite to that given they rolled the dice last year and chose to go to the arkle not the novice handicap (which i was on at nice prices for and am still bitter about)

                            Yep, I'd concede that.
Although a 20 runner handicap wouldn't float my boat as an owner if I had the choice.
This choice looks a little closer.

Id give the champion chase a go this year then target the mares chase next year without the grade 1 penalty
