  • Elimay – 2.00

She’s a course-and-distance winner but is a hard horse to place. She’ll have an entry for the mares’ chase at Cheltenham and this is her first run over fences this season.

It will be interesting to see how she operates against these horses and we might go back for the Opera Hat Chase at Naas in a month’s time. It’s a nice programme for her. She’d have her chance and while she has it to find on ratings, she might improve on her mark as she gets more experience over fences.
The Thurles card lost at the weekend takes place on Wednesday. Check out our star columnist's guide to his runners.

I mean, he's told us outright.

Then, a month or so later one random Monday in the wake of no news, she's punted from 14's into 6's over the course of around 24 hours.

We know Willie likes the 'easiest' race and there is fuck all easy about taking on Honeysuckle & Concertista, both of which have battle hardened seasons going into the fez, and one of which BDD couldn't beat last year.

Willie knows if he doesn't run BDD then he avoids a penalty, so Ruby's 'she wont run before Cheltenham' isn't bad news for this, its good! He doesn't want the penalty!

Of course, anything can happen and there are variables at play that don't necessarily involve Willie. Honeysuckle could piss up in the ICH, go CH and Concertista could get injured. Which race looks easier then? Probably the mares hurdle? So things change, but to those on the fence without BDD in the book I say take the 5/1 cause she'll go off nearer 7/4 IMO.
Think that is an excellent post. Well worthy of an arrow of love.

      However..

      1) Shed be odds on. She would be. I absolutely refuse to believe if she turned up in the Mares chase in a field where the other market principles are Dame De Compagnie (a novice) and Colreevy (where Benie would be receiving weight too) that Benie would be anywhere near 7/4.

      2) The 5/2 NRNB price is better than 5/1 not NRNB imo.

      3) The long term plan is exactly that. Rich Ricci said years ago a mares Chase at Cheltenham would be the perfect race for her if it was ever made. It’s been made. She will be aimed at it at home imo.

      4) She’s the goodest of good things.

      • If she's 'the goodest of good things', how come you'd take the NRNB hit?

          • Good chance the 5 behind BDD in the market won't even run, could cut up quite a bit
Honesuckle, PTKO , DDC, Elfile & Colreevy all either def won't in some cases and others unlikely
Added BBD could or couldn't you are down into 14/1 shots

5/1 to 5/2 isn’t really that big a difference for a mare antepost who’s going straight to the race and is coming back from injury. If she runs, she’s a good thing. She might not run but that would be because she misses the festival by not recovering from injury.

Preach it. Cracking post. RR and WM have destroyed the over thinkers re BDD. Enjoy 5/1. Be 8/11 right MOM? haha. I love BDD

Not sure she's been injured at all.

                    • I have backed Elimay for this, beaten by buildmeupbuttercup the smallest of margins over hurdles the last day whos a decent enough mare in her own right & had looked a better chaser than a hurdler last season in her two runs. She looks the type to appreciate the Cheltenham hill to me, it’s Mullins’ MO to run multiple in these types of races but I wonder if he’d be tempted to go elsewhere with colreevy this season? She would have to concede 5lbs to most if not all the field for her grade 1 win and obviously won’t get a chance to run in any of the novice races again, whereas she could come back for this next year. Then again, they’re looking particularly hard races this year, so maybe not.

Elimay did disappoint on her only run at Cheltenham at the Festival beaten 20 lengths in the Mares Hurdle which puts me off a bit.

Fair point Lobos. My rule is I’d always forgive one bad run, or at least not give it too much weight. There were plenty that took Epatantes mares hurdle run as a very big negative regarding the champion hurdle last season for example, although of course there are plenty of examples of horses that just don’t go at Cheltenham for whatever reason. On the little we’ve seen of her over fences, I think it’s fair to say she has the potential to be a better chaser than she is a hurdler , and the yard must think enough of her you’d think to be putting her in a pretty deep race tomorrow

It was only her second start for willie and she was only 5

she had plenty of experience in France but that was still chucking her in at the deep end

Stormy Ireland came second and was the same age but had 8 starts in Britain and Ireland and 1 in France for willie before the race

                              • A big day for prospective candidate's for this race today with Colreevy and Elimay racing. Elimay is racing in the Grade 2 against the Ryanair contenders in a very interesting move. If she wins this race against Allaho and co today she could be re-routed to the Ryanair or definitely be the new fav for the race. I’ve topped up on Elimay at 7/1 with 2pts.
