  • I'm sure I have seen a comment somewhere which suggests that Kenny Alexander wanta Elfile to go chasing as he already has Honeysuckle for the Mares Hurdle.

He did say Honeysuckle is staying over hurdles but they have Elfile to go chasing.

        • Willie talks mares novice chases for Elfile.

With BDD, all he has done is leave all options open. It's absolutely not a pointer to her going for this race (or any other). As I've said before, they badly want to get revenge on Honeysuckle and, far from avoiding her, I think they'll look to take her on again. That may or may not be at Cheltenham but they want it to happen somewhere.

It's more of a pointer than him saying she's not going chasing though

I'm willing to take the gamble now, and it looks like a few others are too.

I will not be upset at all if I've backed a non-runner now though, perfectly aware that it is not set in stone.

Very sad if that's true re Benie and revenge. Mullins should grow up , move on and just except they were beaten by the better horse on the day. I don't think they'll ever meet again.

              • Really Lobos? I think its a brilliant attitude to have in sport that instead of ducking her again they are eager to have another go at it.

Lobos thats insane! He should grow up? I dont think thats one of your better posts. That isnt the attitude that has got Willie Mullins to where he is today.

They aren't saying the best horse didnt win on the day, but they clearly think Benie could have been better. And who are we to doubt him?

Cheltenham is where the best of the best do battle, so WPM wanting another crack at Honeysuckle shows a brilliant sporting attitude that should be admired, not sneered at.

Do we have a 'worst post of the year' title Kev?

I’ll give you Evens money they both meet up at 4.10pm on the first day of Cheltenham

                        • I’m sure revenge doesn’t come into it. He’ll aim her at which ever race looks easier come the day before they have to declare. If Honey suckle is absent or aiming for the champion hurdle I’m sure it’ll be the mares hurdle. If Honey Suckle is firing and confirmed going the mares hurdle route then in my opinion BDD definitely goes Mares Chase or Stayers. I would say it’s likely her last festival or big chance of winning at the festival so they’ll want to bow out with another Win to her name rather then risk taking honey suckle on again on likely worse terms (age and peaks). I get Willie Mullins may want to split the pack so he has the best chances of winning both races, but if the mares Chase is a penalty kick it’ll be BDD’s penalty kick, I doubt Rich Ricci would allow Willie to purposefully put Benie in the harder race because she can give honey suckle a race. The only variation on this would be if it looks like Salsaretta’s odds on for the Chase, which must be unlikely and I have to admit I’ve backed at 7/1 but I regret it - awful price. Think it’s likely I’ll cash out.

As I’ve mentioned I’ll be surprised if they take Honey suckle on, but if you think it’s likely I would suggest taking the BDD boosted any race odds at 4/1, it’s a point shorter then the 5/1 for the mares hurdle price but its a no brainer for keeping the bet alive where ever she ends up !
