Isn’t the King George/Gold Cup record only poor because the Irish horses generally stay in Ireland ?
Wasn’t that many years ago the King George was the biggest guide to the Gold Cup…

Yep, the KG and the Lexus normally used to provide the Gold Cup winner .
when you consider the KG is right handed over 3m on a flat track, and the Gold Cup is left handed on an up my and down track over 3m 2f, it’s always possible the winner of one may not be suited to the other. Been a few over the years.

….did you think Capadanno was impressive? Anybody tempted by 200-1 Sky RaB to win a/r in March & the following GC?

I wouldn't put the words Impressive and Capodanno together. Yes he did well to come back from that mistake and stayed on really well to win but impressive....no. A decent chasing debut nonetheless.

Spectre With lots of horses starting out later than normal, and with plenty not seen yet, I'd like to hear the three of you talk about chasers that might lose over xmas, for legitimate reasons, and the value that might be found in market over-reactions to credible losses. I consider fitness and first runs legitimate reasons for under performance, as well as ground and track suitability. Jumping has to obviously hold up, and I'm talking about horses that don't win, but run with credit. I'll give an example because I think it better explains what I mean. Frodon wins the KG in front running fashion beating Minella Indo 4L. MI doesn't do anything wrong per se, but can't peg Frodon back on a flat track over 3m. MI goes 0/2 this season and get's pushed from 5's out to 8's. There is opportunity there, and there might be 2 or 3 instances over Xmas where this happens. Would be interesting to hear your thoughts.

Any concerns creeping in about likes of Appreciate It or Galopin des Champs still without a run?

Is there a point in the calendar where you'd discount betting a horse for Cheltenham if they hadn't had a run?

Xmas would be most people's cut off I'd say.

A couple of horses with multiple entries that we haven’t seen for a while might be good to touch on.....Five O clock and Jungle Boogie

Asterion Forlonge - 2 entries over Christmas at 3m. He’s never run over that trip before, good performance in either the King George/Savills (whichever one he turns up in) & is he actually a realistic contender for the Gold Cup? In which case, is 33s appealing now with a big run at Christmas cutting his price significantly?

Granted, he likes to put in the odd hairy jump but bar the Unseat last time & a couple of falls he’s never been out of the first 4.

Or do you think he goes to the Ryanair for which he’s shorter for currently? In which case, why’s he entered in 2 3m chases over Christmas?

Just can't have him at Cheltenham, seems like he hates going left handed

I get why you’re saying that on the evidence of some runs but he’s run at the past 2 Festivals & finished 3rd in the Marsh and 4th in the Supreme - one of which he lost a shoe in, I’m not totally convinced he hates the track.

Im sure Willie mentioned that he wants to keep him going right handed at some point. It wouldn't surprise me if they target punchestown gold cup after kempton so whilst the 33/1 could easily shorten it does come with risk
