  • The Christmas Chases Podcast - Your Input Is Required

Hi Guys. The Christmas Hurdles Podcast has been recorded and I think we've covered most if not all of the questions you asked. Your input was very much appreciated, and we think it made for a good episode. We hope you agree. Kev should have it up on the website either this evening or first thing in the morning, and as usual we'd really like to hear your feedback.

Next week is the turn of the Chases over the Christmas period, so once again we would really like to answer your questions, or give our opinions on your suggested races or topics that come up over the Festive break.

If possible could you get what you want us to cover up by Saturday latest. We had a lot to cover from your questions this week, and ideally we could do with an extra day to prep so we can do it justice.

Thanks to everyone who's got involved so far. We're looking forward to seeing your questions again this week. Hopefully a few more of you will get involved too.

Bit of a random one maybe but...

Why do you think the King George has such a poor record of producing Gold Cup winners or even places (lately)? And can winning a KG actually be a negative for the GC? This year it looks like a few of the fancied GC horses are actually turning up at Kempton. Think any of them can win both?

Bravemansgame is surely a certainty in the Feltham, but where does he have a better chance in March, the Marsh or the RSA?

Despite being brushed aside by Bob Olinger over 2m 5f last year, with his jumping being so accurate, I think he'd be a massive danger in the Marsh, whereas I give him no chance at all in the RSA because he'll just get out stayed.

Where do you think he'll run, and where do you think he'd have the stronger prospect?

…..do you see any novice chaser not stepping up to the plate over Christmas who diverts to become a CH contender? For example, PP recently cut the price of Appreciate It for the CH.

The CH seems a bit of the ‘same old’ and could do with a bit of fresh life with the inclusion of one of last years promising novices.

Main one for me has to be Ferny Hollow vs Rivi?re Detal in the Novice Chase Grade 1.

Does Ferny become a real Arkle contender or is it bubble burst? Mentioned a while ago Rivi?re will be getting some weight pull (13lbs) I think and her last chance for both weight for age and mares allowances.

If Ferny is beat do they divert back over hurdles or up in trip over fences? Or if only just beaten do they continue down the 2m route over fences?

Secondly, Appreciate It will likely have a fairly easy beginners chase debut over 2m at Xmas imo, if he wins as we expect does this cement him as number 1 for the Arkle or likely dependent on the above result? Ferny wins do we see a DRF showdown to decide or will WPM split them?

I'm sure you'll touch on the Savills but I'm interested to hear if you think Galvin can enhance his Gold Cup claims?

How does Willie split his novice chasers?
(Almost deserves a podcast of its own!)

Thoughts on Vanillier and Gabynako for Gavin Cromwell? Trainer suggested NHC for Vanillier, where do you think Gabynako ends up and if he'll cut it at top level or not?

Regarding Vanillier..I wouldn't read too much into what Cromwell has said at this stage, Christmas will give you your answer, if he performs well he'll be heading for the RSA.

There's been a few conflicting statements in terms of the target https://www.racingpost.com/news/gavi...a-pearl/522107

With the poor record of the King George form to the Gold cup (as mentioned by Benjy) is that a concern for Minella Indo fans?
