Not before Christmas. It's nothing but maidens from here. Gowran, Punchestown and Fairyhouse this month were also maidens and the last race before that would have had him against Quilixios at Down Royal on the 31st of October.

edit - Druid's Altar's race at Punchestown was also open to winners and he had Dark Voyager in that one.

It’s more difficult than I imagined than.

      • Yeah, it looks a properly decent contest. Elliott was thinking of running Quilixios in this but also reasoned that he already had the experience which Zanahiyr doesn't have yet.

Not a knock on Saint Sam btw as I think he could be decent and I liked the look of him months ago. But it's as good as race as we'll see in Ireland before Boxing Day.

It’s a shame Quilixios didn’t stand his ground but as you say, he’s got his experience so they can wait for another day. The Triumph is certainly attracting more of the bigger owners now with the Morans and Joe Donnelly sourcing juveniles this year.

Whilst Willie isn’t afraid to throw horses in at the deep end on debut for the yard, Saint Sam is not protecting a novice status so he could find a much easier opener. He also has a form line within the yard with Zanahiyr so you’d imagine that he thinks he’s got him covered even giving weight away. Saint Sam has experience already and is a solid jumper (Saint Des Saints love their jumping) so there is no concern on that front either.
Patrick Mullins seemed very cautious on the Podcast described it as a 'watching brief' that they hadn't been too hard on him yet at home, just a word of caution.

            • That can also mean the stable staff want to get their money down for their Christmas bonus Crolwey!

Just like Flinteur Sacre was the second coming

In all seriousness though, it is a tough one as, whilst he has experience, he’s not race fit and has to give away weight too. Probably good advice from Pat.

Can't be loads of people making a book in the Triumph...

I've backed 4 so far Zanahiyr is one of them... I'm actually not that interested in Saint Sam. If the 33/1 was with cashout I'd have taken it - haven't taken the 25s as I think/hope he's beaten tomorrow.

It's probably not a bad move, but I'll think about it tomorrow morning.

Yeah, he doesn't really interest me either Kev. Much prefer to top up further on Zanahiyr.

Hopefully he does the job against Saint Sam, and SS gets a fair mark for the Boodles.

                      Jackie,
Silly question but why is SS Not protecting a novice status
                      TIA

He’s already won twice in France so after this season he’ll be in open company if staying over hurdles.
Sometimes Willie aims juveniles high (see Hook Up) if they’re still maidens and if they don’t win that season, he can still aim them at novice hurdles the following season and they have a bit of additional experience.

Many thanks Jackie for the explanation.

...best I’ve seen is 33-1 Sky. Only 25-1 with PP.

I think it’s available @ 33-1 with PP for the Triumph so that looks a strange.

I'd much prefer 33/1 with PP before the race than get him to win at odds against.
