  • Apologies for the radio silence on the thread. I will hopefully be taking a closer look at all of the new names before too long but previews for Friday's races, shooing off the remainder of this batbug thingy along with indulging friends checking to see that I'm still alive have unfortunately taken priority for the moment.

I have noticed that Willie Mullins has inevitably been a topic of discussion so I have whipped up a quick table showing where and when the yard's top juveniles since 2008/09 have made their stable debuts. Without wishing to pre-empt my preview for Friday's race, I have also done a little graph on the type of horse he typically enters in the race. While I won't be calling Youmdor the strong prospect without going through the rest of the field with a fine tooth comb, it looks likely that he will get the nod. Furthermore, if he is anything like the yard's previous entries in the race, the 50/1 available on him for the Triumph (was 40/1 when I did a piece on him earlier in the thread) might not be around come Friday afternoon.

      • Nice one Kotkijet, hope you are feeling better.

I'm really interested in Youmdor, in fact I requested and backed the 50's upon his entry in the race

He’s almost definitely beaten trees there but he looked pretty good. You’ve got to be happy with that.

Is it me or does he look like a huge horse? He was stepping over those hurdles like they weren’t there. Be a good old chasing type one day.

              • He looked decent and yes looked a big lad, probably want a bit further. Carried his head a bit high though but maybe he was pulling Paul's arms out a bit. Liked the way he galloped through the line as well.

He is a bit of a unit. Got tight into a few hurdles, and also his head carriage looked a bit awkward at times, this could be down to him being too keen, mind. 50's is a nice price to be sat on, but I wouldn't get too carried away just yet, for all that he looked to have an engine under the bonnet.

                    • Looked like he wanted to jump a bit quicker which is why he was a bit fiddly at a couple. Relatively happy to be on him any race @ 66s now

                          • It was his first run since the end of May so he was entitled to be a bit fresh. I didn't like his early jumps as it looked like they came as a bit of a surprise to him. But he got better once he knew what the game was about and I imagine he will be cleaner next time. He didn't beat a great deal but the runner-up had improved with each run over hurdles and I gave him 114 for his latest effort so to beat him by sixteen lengths without turning a hair, despite his inexperience, was not a bad introduction at all.

Long way to go before the Triumph and the Mullins yard has acquired a few nice looking types recently, but anybody who took the 50/1 (or 66/1 even!) can only be pleased with what they just saw.
