Getting some quick runs in to get him a mark for the Boodles

Nah, if he's beaten this weekend he'll end up Boodles fav surely?

FWIW I think that'd be if something has gone wrong rather than a plan... so fingers crossed for a big run.

Have you got the rest of the entries, I'm sure the main man will be able to give us a fairly nice picture beforehand so we know what to look for

I've long held the view you need a battle hardened horse for the Triumph, Pentland Hills won on only his second NH start but was an experienced flat performer so knew what it was like to race, I would be more concerned if he was looked after too much and arrived at Cheltenham having been wrapped in cotton wool for most of the Winter...

I think Gordon would have had him for a while too so he's acclimatised and ready to race. Some of the delayed debuts for other Triumph winners have been because they were purchased later in the season.

Most of the field is poor apart from Gordon's but JOB has a potentially interesting recruit off the flat with an OR of 88. He's won over 1m4f and run exclusively over that trip so won't have an issue staying. He's by Mastercraftsmen who is making an impact as a NH sire.

A review of the race can be found here. He did it nicely and has plenty of scope for improvement but I don't think he beat a great deal. The ground at the festival usually has "soft" in the description on which he has yet to prove his ability. That said, he could still be pretty useful and there are several shorter than him in the Triumph lists with inferior chances.

No idea who this main man could be, but I too look forward to his thoughts. If this doesn't give you the encouragement to keep the impending site outage as short as possible, I don't know what will!

                      • The decs are in for tomorrow's race at Wetherby and Down Royal's race on Saturday. Since we can't wait forever for the main man, I have taken the liberty of doing reviews for the weekend's races here (Wetherby) and here (Down Royal).

So as well as sending Duffle Coat and Longclaw to Wetherby, Gordon Elliott also has Quilixios and Glorious Zoff entered at Down Royal on Saturday. One can only commend his sportsmanship although he is surely as interested as anybody in finding out the pecking order of his juvenile hurdlers.

For posterity, here are the current Triumph Hurdle prices of the Elliott horses along with the other listed participants for the weekend's races.

                        14/1 Quilixios
                        33/1 Glorious Zoff
                        33/1 Zanahiyr
                        40/1 First Impression
                        50/1 Duffle Coat
                        50/1 Midnights Legacy
                        66/1 Hiconic

Interesting that GF was a sprinter on the flat ! You wouldn't expect him to win a 2 mile hurdle race in Winter ground. That said, Red Rum won over 6f at Ayr as a 2yo so anything is possible.

I mean technically he was a sprinter, but a slow one at that! Zoffany gets more than his fair share of winners over jumps and damsire Overbury has been responsible for some "proper jumps horses" over the years.

Not a bad job filling in to be fair... keep it up and you might get the gig.

Nice performance by Duffle Coat, looks like a horse who finds a bit off the bridle. The 50s looks decent now, thanks for highlighting Kot, i think he is down to 20s now,
